General Statement of Responsibilities:

As a designated care provider at Lantern Crest Senior Living, the Caregiver plays a vital role in delivering exceptional care and compassion to our residents. Caregivers build meaningful relationships with residents and their families while assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), attending to individual care needs, and honoring each resident’s unique preferences and personality.

Caregivers are responsible for observing and reporting changes in residents’ conditions, supporting participation in life skills and enrichment activities, and incorporating multi-sensory experiences into each resident’s daily routine.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Report any resident concerns or changes in condition promptly to the supervisor.

2. Provide social interaction, conversation, and emotional reassurance to residents.

3. Encourage, monitor, and assist residents during meals to ensure adequate nutrition and hydration.

4. Participate in and encourage residents’ engagement in reading, games, and other activities that promote mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

5. Support and encourage mild exercise programs appropriate to each resident’s abilities.

6. Assist with nail care limited to soaking and cleaning nails.

7. Ensure resident safety during toileting, bathing, dressing, and other personal care tasks.

8. Assist with ambulation and the use of adaptive equipment (e.g., walkers, canes, or wheelchairs) after residents have been trained by a healthcare professional.

9. Provide hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing, dressing, and toileting.

10. Perform light housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.

11. Empty or change urinary drainage bags as directed.

12. Assist with shaving using only electric shavers.

13. Assist with feeding, ensuring residents can swallow independently and are properly positioned.

14. Provide basic, preventive skin care for unbroken skin and inactive chronic conditions.

15. Assist with safe pivot transfers (e.g., bed to chair, chair to commode, wheelchair to car) when the resident can stand, pivot, and assist in the process.

16. Provide non-invasive, resident-directed care within the caregiver’s scope of practice.

17. Respond promptly to residents’ needs while maintaining dignity, respect, safety, and confidentiality.

18. Encourage resident participation in daily living activities such as making beds, folding laundry, and setting tables.

19. Support residents in keeping their rooms tidy and ensuring a safe environment.

20. Ensure residents are appropriately dressed and groomed.

21. Respond promptly to resident call systems, pull cords, or alerts and carry a communication radio at all times.

22. Assist the Activities Department in preparing and engaging residents for planned programs and events.

23. Complete all required documentation and care records accurately by the end of each shift.

24. Assist new residents with settling in, arranging personal items, and becoming familiar with the community and other residents.

25. Follow Universal Precautions and all infection control procedures regarding exposure to blood or bodily fluids.

26. Follow all fire, safety, and emergency procedures to ensure the well-being of residents and staff.

27. Demonstrate professionalism, tact, and courtesy when interacting with residents, families, and visitors.

28. Maintain all required certifications and licensure in accordance with state law and company policy.

29. Represent Lantern Crest positively by engaging courteously with guests and visitors during tours or community events.

30. Maintain confidentiality of all resident, family, and staff information.

31. Participate in ongoing education to stay current with senior living, assisted living, and dementia-specific care practices.

32. Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support community needs.

33. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent required. Previous food service experience preferred, especially in hospitality, restaurant, or senior living settings.

Licenses/Certifications:

Food handlers certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Character:

Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.  Must be responsible and able to exercise good judgment, accept administrative supervision, pay attention to detail, follow instructions, including the ability to interact effectively and communicate with people in a professional and courteous manner.  Must be highly confidential and work as a team with other staff.  Applicants should be sensitive to clients’ needs.

Skills:

Strong team building, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective peer relationships with coworkers within the Department, community-wide, and the public. Must be able to express ideas clearly, concisely, address audiences effectively, and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Willing to be part of a team and cooperate in accomplishing department goals and objectives. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, take initiative, be proactive, and function in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to work with people of all social and ethnic backgrounds, resolve conflicts, negotiate situations, and facilitate consensus.  

Physical and Personal Requirements:

Normal kitchen environment. Sit or stand for long periods of time. Reach, bend, climb, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs. repetitive hand movement; use and view PC.

Compliance:

Each employee plays a key role in creating a compliance culture. Employees are expected to learn and comply with all Lantern Crest policies and procedures. One must have the ability to understand the implications and complexities of all compliance policies. Participation in all compliance training is mandatory and generally has a heightened awareness of policies and regulations that are specific to one’s department and position. All Lantern Crest employees are expected to report violations or suspected violations of compliance policies or regulations. 

Other:

Applicants must successfully pass a pre-screening tuberculin skin test or x-ray and a urine drug screen test. Candidates will be required to undergo a physical to ensure health is adequate to perform all duties of the position. Applicants must complete application and authorization form, both must be submitted to Human Resources prior to the close date indicated. Applicants will be required to undergo a background check consisting of fingerprinting and criminal records check with DOJ and FBI, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
