About This Position

Position Summary
The Inpatient Supervisor oversees operations and activities of all nursing staff on the Inpatient Unit. This individual should maintain knowledge of current evidence-based practices and value-based care in behavioral health nursing, implementing these practices through staff education and patient interventions. The Inpatient Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day management of the Inpatient Unit, as well as long term planning of initiatives for improvement. This person will hire and train all new staff members and provide continued education and direction for existing staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Incorporates the six principles of trauma informed care throughout all aspects of their work.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to nursing staff through conflict resolution, communication, and delegation skills
  • Manages and coordinates staffing needs to ensure adequate staff coverage
  • Acts as Inpatient Infection Control coordinator through collection and reporting of infection control related data
  • Provides orientation, training, and continued education for all new and existing nursing staff
  • Provides direct patient care, as needed, completing nursing assessments, medication education and administration, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services to clients
  • Ensures operational standards and guidelines are met through knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
  • Provides feedback and evaluation of performance to all nursing staff, assisting in goal setting and development of individual competencies
  • Drives changes and initiatives for quality improvement and improved patient outcomes Communicates actively with staff through facilitation and attendance in educational staffing meetings
  • Reviews timesheets and work records for nursing staff
  • Establishes, creates, and fosters a safe and positive environment for both patients and staff
  • Creates and ensures staff implementation of nursing policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skillful in conflict resolution and interpersonal communication
  • Knowledgeable in implementation of evidence-based nursing practice in behavioral health settings
  • Strong commitment to recovery services
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
  • Registered Nurse licensure in state of Indiana
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in behavioral health field (leadership experience preferred)
