Principal Research Scientist
Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to support advanced research and development initiatives for Department of Defense (DoD) customers focused on game-theoretic modeling, distributed decision systems, cyber defense analytics, and multi-agent system architectures. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of next-generation modeling, simulation, and analytics capabilities used to improve mission planning, cyber defense, space situational awareness, and intelligence systems. This role supports research programs across ISR systems, sensor networks, satellite communications, and distributed autonomous platforms.
The position requires expertise in dynamic systems modeling, data fusion, advanced analytics, and algorithm development in support of national security applications.
Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to research and development efforts involving game-theoretic modeling, dynamic games, and distributed decision systems.
- Develop multi-agent modeling frameworks supporting autonomous systems, distributed sensing, and collaborative platforms.
- Design and implement modeling and simulation environments for cyber defense, ISR systems, and space situational awareness applications.
- Develop advanced algorithms for threat prediction, situational awareness, and mission planning.
- Support development of distributed optimization and sensor management techniques for large-scale sensor networks.
- Apply data fusion, machine learning, and data mining methods to improve operational awareness and decision support.
- Support development of high-performance computing (HPC) solutions for large-scale modeling and analytics problems.
- Contribute to cyber security modeling frameworks focused on threat analysis, network survivability, and adversarial behavior modeling.
- Develop research prototypes and analytical tools supporting DoD operational experimentation and simulation environments.
- Support development of satellite systems and space-domain analytics, including constellation analysis and distributed sensing architectures.
- Collaborate with government sponsors, engineers, and researchers to translate research concepts into operational capabilities.
- Prepare technical reports, research documentation, and peer-reviewed publications supporting program deliverables.
- Provide technical leadership for sponsored research programs across DoD organizations such as Air Force, Navy, and OSD research initiatives.
- Strong background in game theory, dynamic systems, or distributed optimization.
- Experience developing multi-agent systems, distributed control algorithms, or collaborative autonomous systems.
- Experience with modeling and simulation for complex systems.
- Knowledge of cyber defense modeling, threat analysis, or network security analytics.
- Experience with sensor networks, ISR systems, or distributed sensing architectures.
- Experience applying data fusion, data mining, or machine learning techniques in research or operational environments.
- Experience supporting DoD or federally funded research programs.
- Strong technical writing skills and experience producing technical papers, reports, or research publications.
- Ability to work in collaborative research environments involving government, industry, and academic partners.
- Experience supporting space domain awareness or satellite communications research.
- Experience with high-performance computing environments.
- Experience developing research prototypes or analytical tools in Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages.
- Experience supporting SBIR/STTR or advanced research programs.
- Prior experience supporting Air Force, Navy, or DARPA research initiatives.
Clearance:
- US citizen and eligible for DoW Secret level clearance.
Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in advanced research, modeling, or defense analytics.
Location:
- Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
