JOB SUMMARY
Assists Sheridan Memorial Hospital (SMH) by performing a broad range of tasks related to construction oversight/management. Coordinates internal staff and external contractor activities to complete construction activities. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team of Facilities Services personnel. As such, a wide variety of work outside the Construction Manager will be required of this position, including but not be limited to; assisting with plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other skilled or unskilled fields of work. Additionally, the employee may be required to provide labor services that may include snow removal, moving offices or equipment as needed. Assists the Facilities Services department with budgeting, purchasing, and documentation of construction projects.
Essential Job Functions:
- Verifying work is done to specifications.
- Monitors all construction activities.
- Utilize professional skills to ensure safe and code-complaint conditions of all systems under his/her purview.
- Assess the complexity, risks of the systems, and obtain assistance when the job falls outside current competency or ability.
- Utilize building plans, blueprints, engineering drawings, maintenance and repair manuals, and past experience/training to accomplish the work.
- Recommends changes to reduce cost and improve usability of projects.
- Attends Building Committee meetings.
- First approval for any project changes submitted to the Building Committee.
- Monitors construction project budgets.
- Acts as a liaison between contractors and SMH.
- Coordinates project activities with both in-house and external; electricians, plumbers and HVAC installers.
- Coordinate activities with the Infection Preventionist to reduce risk for patient and staff injury.
- Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Assists the Facilities Services Department as needed with tasks including:
- Snow removal
- Moving furniture and equipment
- Assisting with plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other skilled and unskilled fields of work
- May be required to work on or around sources of hazardous and stored energy. The employee will follow all safety requirements and guidelines and use proper personal protective equipment to do the job. Employee will be familiar with and use, without exception, proper lockout and tag-out practices to minimize exposure to hazardous power or energy sources.
- Complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Compile information and create reports as needed.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to director/managers and co-workers.
- Maintains a good working relationship with Administration and with other departments.
- Ability to assist in responding to requesting departments/users, regarding status of projects, work orders and other requests for assistance from other departments.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.
- Attend facilities monthly safety meetings and provide construction updates to facilities staff.

- Knowledgeable of International Building Codes.
- Knowledgeable of NFPA Codes as pertaining to healthcare construction.
- Knowledgeable of FGI Guidelines for Healthcare Construction.
- Unit Environment - able to describe, locate and/or demonstrate knowledge of:
- Computer system, Order communication and patient information
- Hospital/physician directory
- Telephone system
- Paging/beeper system
- Bulletin boards/e-mail/communication book
- Meeting minutes
- Infor system
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience & Licensure
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
- Current valid driver's license.
- 3-5 years construction or general contractor experience, required.
- 6-8 years construction or general contractor experience, preferred.
Additional Skills
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong assessment skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to prioritize and organize.
Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
