Lecturer - Studio Lessons
D-25-MUS-00001 | Faculty | Music
The Department of Music at Princeton University may have occasional openings for semester-long, renewable, non-tenure-track lecturer positions to teach in our studio lesson program, for the fall and/or spring semesters of the 2025-2026 academic year, and accepts applications in advance in the event the occasion arises where such lecturers are needed.
Responsibilities include teaching private instrumental/vocal lessons to Princeton University students; adjudicating juries, evaluating arts supplements in support of University admissions processes; and writing letters of recommendation. Other opportunities may include programming for Richardson Chamber Players, presenting master classes, and coaching student soloists and ensembles. Successful candidates may also have the opportunity to teach music courses subject to departmental need and approval by the Department Chair and Office of the Dean of the Faculty. Lecturers perform their own administrative and clerical support functions, including but not limited to coordinating teaching schedules, entering grades, responding to student inquiries, and more.
Any appointments and duty time are subject to student enrollment in the studio lessons program.
The work location for these positions is in-person on campus at Princeton University.
Essential Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience. They must also demonstrate effective studio teaching, ensemble skill-building, and knowledge of repertoire.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a college or university setting, experience coaching soloists and ensembles, and teaching of master classes.
Candidates must submit an application online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/38222 providing a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references. Applications will be reviewed based on need, and the Department may not review all applications it receives. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. These positions are subject to the University's background check policy.
Expected Salary Range: $1,564.68/enrolled student taking ten 1-hour lessons
The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
