About This Position
Job Overview:
Physician Assistant (PA) work under the direction of the primary operating surgeon in the Perioperative care of the patient undergoing a surgical experience. The PA assist the surgeons during surgical procedures and acts in the role as the first assistant. Responsible for performing history, physical examinations, identifying problems, recording, interpreting and presenting information to the supervising physician and determining and implementing therapeutic plans jointly with the supervising physician. Performs patient counseling and education consistent with direction of the supervising physician.
Qualifications:
- Valid license/certificate as a Physician Assistant in the State of NJ required
- 3 years of Physician Assistant experience preferred
- Current DEA license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required

- Full Time
- Day Shift
- 40 hours

- Works within a well ventilated and well lighted patient care and office area

Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates intraoperative competency as a PA
- Knowledge of principles of asepsis and infection control, surgical anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures. Skills manual dexterity, suturing and ligating providing hemostasis
- Observes institutional policies and practices of the PA role as a first assistant.
- PA collaborates with the primary surgeon and others to facilitate the pending surgical procedure.
- PA handles tissue, provides exposure, uses instruments, sutures, provides hemostasis, closes tissue and skin.
- PA is aware of the environment observing for potential sources of injury to self, team and the patient. PA practices universal precautions at all times and is in observance of OSHA regulations.
- PA observes conditions of patient and initiates emergency measure as needed.
- Practices within the guidelines of the state of NJ
- Recognizes potential hazards and initiates corrective action
- Administers injections, medications, and orders diagnostic studies when specified by written protocol approved by appropriate departments.
- Applies and removes medical and surgical appliances and devices.
- Collects fluid for diagnostic purposes.
- Facilitates the referral of patients to and promotes their awareness of health care facilities and other appropriate agencies and resources in the community.
- Managers emergency and life threatening conditions using accepted protocols
- Performs history, physical examinations, identified problems, records interprets and implements therapeutic plans jointly with the supervising physician
- Performs minor surgical procedures
- Performs suturing and follow up care of wounds. Care of traumatic wounds requiring suturing in layers and/or facial wounds and/or infected wounds will not be performed.
- Places and utilizes access catheters and tubes for diagnostic therapeutic or interventional purposes.
