About This Position
Help New Mexico (HELPNM) was created in 1965 by the interdenominational New Mexico Council of Churches to support education in their community. Today, their legacy and impact carry on through HELPNM’s work as a fully-owned subsidiary of CPLC. The Office of Learning and Academic Opportunity (OLAO) provides services to children and families from birth to eight years of age. Our priority is to provide general services related to families in the areas of education, health and social/behavioral development. OLAO also provides an intentional, coordinated approach to strengthening the family unit and combines programming for children and adults in order to build strong and stable families.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
- You will lead, guide and manage program governance and family engagement strategies and outcomes for CPLC’s Early Childhood Development programs by implementing a systematic and integrated parent and family engagement approach. You will directly supervise Parent, Family, Community Engagement and Governance Specialists in each region.
- You will work closely with other Content Area Coordinators and Specialists, Managers, Family Services Staff, and site staff to support ongoing partnership between staff and families while meeting Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- You will promote school readiness by preparing children and families for school and life success.
- You will actively always supervise children by sight and sound in all environments.
- You will maintain all health and safety regulations to create an optimum learning environment.
- You will facilitate health practices to keep children safe in the school bus, outdoor and indoor environments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct supervision/guidance to the Family Service and Engagement Workers.
WHO YOU ARE:

You have experience working with low-income and culturally diverse children, families and communities
You have experience in family services, community collaboration and partnership development
You understand and will promote Head Start as a part of the broader community (geographically, within early childhood development, etc.).
You have knowledge of human development, especially social-emotional development of children and adults, and ensure that staff receive information through consultation and supervision.
You understand how the Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, and Office of Head Start family engagement and family services technical assistance resources relate to daily work, have a working knowledge of the Head Start management systems and apply this knowledge to develop plans for parent, family, community engagement, and governance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education/Background:
-
Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education, social work, family services, counseling or a related field and 5 years’ experience working with children and families.
- Initial TB test or Chest X-ray clearance
- Valid New Mexico Driver's License in good standing and vehicle insurance are required.
- Successfully complete the ECECD New Mexico Background Check per Office of Head Start and state licensing if applicable.
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified or obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.
