About the Role: Aviat Networks is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Field Network Integration Specialist to support the deployment, integration, and commissioning of microwave and IP-based networking systems. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, and testing microwave communications equipment and related networking components at customer sites to ensure proper alignment, connectivity, and optimal performance.
The position involves hands-on work with advanced telecommunications equipment and requires frequent travel to remote or rugged locations across the country, often for extended durations. While tower climbing is not required, candidates must be comfortable working independently in isolated environments and collaborating closely with internal teams and customer personnel. Adherence to safety regulations, strong technical proficiency, and a professional, customer-focused approach are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret and apply complex telecommunications system documentation, including DS1/DS3/SONET /IP transport diagrams, channel plans, and network management interface schematics.
- Provision, configure, and validate microwave radio systems, network management platforms, digital cross-connect systems, IP routers/switches, and OEM element management systems.
- Execute integration of microwave and IP transport networks, including system commissioning, interoperability testing, and customer handover.
- Install, commission, test, and turnup of Aviat and third-party equipment such as split-mount and full-outdoor microwave radios, multiplexers, Layer 2/Layer 3 switches, DC power systems, battery banks, and associated infrastructure (cable trays, grounding, signal/power/alarm cabling, and waveguide pressurization systems).
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and performance validation of linear and ring network topologies using industry-standard test equipment and diagnostic software.
- Conduct antenna line sweeping and RF path validation using spectrum analyzers, microwave power meters, variable attenuators, and sweep gear.
- Commission IP-based transport systems with proficiency in platforms such as Cisco, Extreme Networks, Fujitsu, Zyxel, ProVision, ProVision Plus.
- Perform TDM and Ethernet service testing including BER and RFC 2544 (throughput, latency, frame loss, back-to-back) using tools such as Viavi/JDSU and Keysight/Agilent.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation including daily progress reports, expense submissions, and adherence to project scope and budget.
- No tower climbing or elevated work is required; all integration activities are performed at ground level or within equipment shelters.
- Additional duties as assigned in support of network deployment and customer service objectives.
- Ability to travel extensively and work autonomously in remote field conditions.
- Field assignments will require travel to remote and often isolated locations across North America, with deployments lasting multiple weeks.
- Must be comfortable working independently in rural and rugged environments with limited on-site support.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in field integration (microwave transport systems or IP Networking preferred)
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent industry/military certification strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical documentation, execute complex system integrations, and troubleshoot multi-vendor environments.
- Strong customer service orientation, professional communication skills, and organizational discipline.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities in real-time field scenarios.
- Willingness to travel up to 80%
