BILINGUALCOMMUNITY SERVICE WORKER

DEPARTMENT: Public Health & Safety

DIVISION: Public Health

SALARY: $46,395 - $62,259

SCHEDULE: The regular schedule for thisposition is Monday through Friday, full-time. However, as part of the Divisionof Public Health within the Department of Public Health and Safety, whichfunctions as an emergency response agency, the position may require occasionalwork outside of standard business hours in support of public healthemergencies, community events, or response activities. This title isrepresented by a collective bargaining unit, and all schedule practices aresubject to the terms and conditions memorialized in the applicable unioncontract.

POSITIONOVERVIEW:

TheCommunity Service Worker, Bilingual in Spanish and English supports publichealth programs by engaging directly with residents, conducting outreach in thecommunity, and assisting with navigation and referrals to services. Workingunder the direction of supervisory staff, this position promotes localcommunity resource programs, supports wellness education, and helps connectresidents with public, non-profit, and County agencies.

Thisopportunity is ideal for a motivated and service-oriented individual committedto advancing equitable access to health resources and improving communityoutcomes throughout Mercer County.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicantsmust meet one of the following:

  • Four (4)years of professional experience in community relations work involving thepromotion of local community resources or field work in a social service orpublic assistance program;
  • Possessionof a bachelor's degree
SPECIALSKILL: Applicantsmust be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in both Spanishand English at a proficient level to perform the duties of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotepublic health initiatives, community resources, and County programs toresidents.
  • Providereferrals and linkages to health, social service, and community-based supports.
  • Assistindividuals within the scope of County services; identify additional needs andcoordinate with external agencies as appropriate.
  • Supportcommunity events, educational workshops, outreach activities, clinics, andresource fairs.
  • Explainprogram functions and services to residents in both English and Spanish.
  • Preparereports of community outreach activity; maintain accurate documentation andrecords.
  • Utilizeelectronic and manual record systems in accordance with County procedures.
  • Performrelated duties as required in support of the Division's public health mission.

  • Knowledgeof community resources and services available to residents.
  • Skill inpromoting programs and encouraging residents to access support.
  • Ability tocommunicate clearly and effectively in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability toidentify additional service needs and refer appropriately.
  • Ability toprepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability towork effectively with diverse community members.
  • Ability tolearn and use electronic and manual record systems.
