JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant
POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining and reconciling the District’s financial records, including general ledger activity, account balances, and financial transactions. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all financial reporting with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The Senior Accountant also supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, assists with budget monitoring, audits, and financial analysis, and plays a key role in upholding the integrity of the District’s overall financial operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Analyze financial data and trends, provide insights to leaders for decision-making and provide recommendations.
Reviewing financial data and reporting for accuracy.
Ensuring compliance with all IRS regulations including but NOT limited to 1099 income reporting requirements and taxing laws.
Prepare required filings and reports for local, state, and federal agencies, including tax filings and financial disclosures.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board), and other regulatory requirements.
Obsess Over Excellence: We have high standards and seek continuous improvement.
Perform monthly reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers, balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries and account balances are accurately recorded and financial statements are prepared in a timely manner.
Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including those prepared by others, to ensure accuracy, proper classification, and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
Track Construction in Progress (CIP) transactions, ensuring proper classification and recording in accordance with the District’s capitalization policy, with particular attention to large-scale projects and those involving financing arrangements.
Maintain and account for right-to-use lease assets and related liabilities in accordance with GASB 87, including preparation of amortization schedules, journal entries, and financial disclosures.
Monitor and record subscription-based IT arrangements (SBITAs) in compliance with GASB 96, ensuring accurate tracking, valuation, and reporting of associated assets and liabilities.
Manage and update fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and tracking of capital projects throughout their lifecycle.
Prepare financial reports and statements summarizing the company's financial position, such as income statements, cash flow, and balance sheets.
Ensuring invoices are received, processed, and paid in accordance with contractual agreements with vendors to meet financial requirements of the district.
Maintains appropriate electronic records and documentation to meet audit requirements.
Assist with annual budget and/or forecast preparation and provide ongoing monitoring of budget/forecast performance, including analyzing and reporting on budget/forecast variances to support informed decision-making.
Provide support with payroll processing, benefits accounting, and related accounts payable or receivable tasks as required.

Identify and recommend improvements to accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial processes, and contribute to the development and implementation of more efficient accounting procedures.
Utilize accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to perform daily tasks efficiently.

Gathering information requests for consultants, auditors, or organizational leaders.
Coordinate and support external audits, including preparing schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and ensuring timely completion.

Prepare required filings and reports for local, state, and federal agencies, including tax filings and financial disclosures.
Collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate records while also providing accounting support, education, and training opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.

CPA and/or Advance coursework or degree.
Required Experience:
Minimum three years of accounting experience to include reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing/posting journal entries. Intermediate level Excel skills.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, contracts, and other legal documents.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to be flexible and to change priorities and needs to meet deadlines.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and financial reporting.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in other Office applications.

Office and clinical settings with potential exposure to patient care areas.
Flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
May require occasional travel between facility locations.
