About This Position
The Pastry Assistant will assist the Pastry Chef with the daily operations in the pastry department to produce high-quality products efficiently. Reporting to the Pastry Chef, this position must work all holidays when the restaurant is open for business and when there are special events. The requirements/functions of the position may change over the course of employment.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform duties of the pastry assistant.
• Assist the Pastry Chef per directives.
• Responsible for the organization of the pastry area at all times.
• Maintain cooking standards to maintain a high quality of food and service.
• Accurately follow established pastry recipes for all desserts to ensure proper portion control, uniformity of taste, and quality.
• Monitor and ensure the accuracy of the presentation of desserts prepared.
• Keep all pastry areas clean at all times.
• Ensure proper handling and rotation of food products.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy food preparation environment by complying with sanitation and legal regulations.
• Ensure proper closing and opening procedures are followed for the kitchen.
• Assist on the kitchen line, as needed.
• Other duties, as assigned.
TECHNICAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 2 years of professional cooking/pastry experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Culinary Arts degree or equivalent, preferred.
• Proven knowledge of creative dessert preparation.
• Banquet production experience helpful.
• ServeSafe Certification required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift. Able to balance, able to lift, bend, kneel, stoop and wipe.
• Able to frequently lift and carry kitchen equipment and other items greater than 45 pounds regularly.
• Able to work in a physical environment where temperatures fluctuate throughout the day in a kitchen environment.
• Ability to follow recipes, and food sanitation and safety guidelines.
