About This Position
Job Summary
The Manager, Pharmacy Operations is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the operations of the central pharmacy and/or any assigned satellite pharmacies. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective workflows and regulatory compliance, while fostering a culture of teamwork, patient safety, and operational excellence. The manager provides leadership to supervisors, coordinators, pharmacists and technicians, as appropriate, and serves as a liaison between staff and pharmacy leadership. The scope of responsibility includes technology and automation, operational workflows, scheduling, regulatory compliance, staff development, performance improvement, and collaboration with site and system-level committees.
Key Responsibilities
· Exemplifies the Rush University System for Health (“Rush”) mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
· Manages, mentors, and provides feedback to team members.
· Manages hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, payroll, disciplinary and review processes for pharmacists and technicians.
· Conducts performance evaluations and provides mentorship for continuous improvement.
· Manages staffing model workflows for central and satellite pharmacies including ADC and other automation, IV/oral preparation and dispensing, carousel operations, compounding, and delivery of medications for optimal efficiency and accuracy.
· Manages site operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, pharmacy policies, procedures, and performance standards in conjunction with site and system pharmacy leaders.
· Ensures compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> regulations and functions as the designated person as assigned.
· Facilitates changes to support site and system pharmacy initiatives.
· Partners with clinical staff and nursing to implement medication therapy best practices, stewardship principles, and service standardization across the continuum of care.
· Collaborates on site and system multidisciplinary committees.
· Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
· Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
· Active pharmacist licensure or eligibility to get a pharmacy license in the practicing state within 3 months of hire.
· Minimum of (5) five years of hospital pharmacy experience
· Strong leadership, analytical, and critical thinking skills with ability to manage change and drive improvement.
· Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with ability to coach and mentor staff.
· Demonstrated knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, automation, and regulatory standards.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Epic, and related informatics and pharmacy systems.
· Dependable attendance, flexibility with scheduling, and ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred Qualifications
· PGY2 residency in pharmacy administration/management or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
· At least (2) two years in a supervisory or lead role.
· Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency and PGY2 HSPAL residency or equivalent experience.
· Board Certification (e.g., BCPS, BCIDP, BCCCP) or equivalent clinical credential.
· Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration
