Job Overview
BDI Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Electrical Estimator to join our growing team in Birmingham, AL. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, government, industrial, and select residential electrical projects. The Electrical Estimator plays a critical role in securing profitable work, supporting project managers, and ensuring projects are set up for success from day one.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop comprehensive electrical estimates.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and proposals for commercial, industrial, and government projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure scope clarity and constructability.
- Identify potential cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and scope gaps.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material pricing, labor rates, and market trends.
- Utilize estimating software and spreadsheets to prepare and track bids.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Assist with project handoff to operations upon award, ensuring smooth transition from estimating to execution.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of electrical estimating experience (commercial and/or industrial preferred).
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices.
- Experience performing take-offs and preparing competitive bid packages.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Electrical field experience (Journeyman or equivalent) is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED required; construction management or related education preferred.
