About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Tech supports the mission of providing quality healthcare to the patients of WhidbeyHealth Medical Center and Clinics by ensuring that all facilities are maintained to provide a safe environment. Maintenance Tech’s responsibilities include general maintenance, wall repair and painting, preventative maintenance and work order completion at the main hospital campus, specialty clinics, family practice clinics, rural health clinics and other offsite locations. This position operates within established hospital policies and procedures and adheres to and follows all established safety practices to ensure and maintain a safe environment.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
Performs general maintenance duties and supports the overall appearance and condition of the facility to include, but not limited to the following:
- Repairs or replaces flooring and cove base.
- Repairs or replaces wall and door protection.
- Paints interiors and exteriors and repairs wall damage in preparation for painting.
- Installs mounted fixtures and furnishings including pictures, bulletin boards, cabinets, shelving, countertops, wall files, window treatments, dispensers, etc.
- Replaces light bulbs throughout the organization as needed. Replaces light covers, lenses or diffusers as needed. Manages and maintains inventory of necessary bulbs for all locations.
- Replaces ceiling tiles as necessary.
- Keeps walkways free of snow and ice.
- Completes work requests within established department guidelines. As needed, coordinates the completion of work request with requesting department in an agreed upon time frame. Prioritizes all work requests and schedules for completion.
- Reports malfunctions of any / all facility equipment or systems as soon as possible.
- Performs maintenance at offsite locations according to established schedule.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Responds to all calls and requests in a timely manner, to include but not limited to the following:
- Responds to all code calls with the exception of Rapid Response and Code Blue. As a part of the hospital Fire Team, responds accordingly to all Code Red calls. Responds to emergencies immediately and non-emergencies as requested.
- Performs duties to support the Security Team. Provides additional security on request for patients and personnel; protects supplies and property from theft or vandalism.
- Operates District owned vehicles when required to conduct operations on behalf of the organization.
- Assists with maintenance of hospital vehicles.
- Performs courier duties as necessary.
- Maintain positive communications with all patients, family members, employees, managers and any other internal or external customers.
- Greets patients, guests, staff, physicians and vendors with a high degree of personal service, is friendly and welcoming.
- Able to understand the needs of, and communicate with, different age groups.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
Training and Experience
- Two (2) years of general maintenance experience required, hospital or similar healthcare setting preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Maintain a valid WA State Driver’s License. An out of state driver’s license will be acceptable in conjunction with a valid US Military ID.
- Current personal auto insurance and is insurable with the District’s insurance carrier.
- Must provide a copy of Washington State driving record upon hire and may be subject to annual driving record checks based on facility insurance carrier requirements.

- Must possess effective professional interpersonal skills as well as excellent service skills in all interactions with the ability to communicate effectively on the phone, in person and in writing.
