Job Summary – Mold Design EngineerThe Mold Design Engineer is responsible for designing and optimizing highcavitation, closetolerance thermoplastic injection molds for medical products. This role requires strong knowledge of hot runner systems, tool steels, plastic materials, and part design for injection molding. The engineer will use 2D/3D CAD tools and MoldFlow/MoldCool analysis to ensure efficient, reliable mold performance. Plastic mold experience is preferred.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties:
- Design and develop highprecision injection molds, including mold concepts, layouts, detailed components, and moldability analyses to support new product development and improvements to existing tooling.
- Lead and support tooling projects by creating project schedules, tracking costs, preparing status updates, coordinating crossfunctional activities, and communicating progress and risks to management.
- Evaluate, review, and approve mold designs from external vendors and internal drafters/technicians to ensure manufacturability, functionality, and compliance with specifications.
- Coordinate mold fabrication with vendors, including obtaining quotations, supervising contracted resources, and overseeing tool construction, delivery, and acceptance.
- Support mold validation and troubleshooting, assisting with mold debugging, improving cycling efficiency, and collaborating with QE, QC, Manufacturing, and Product Engineering teams.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, protocols, investigative reports, and capital expenditure requests related to tooling, equipment, and process improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation by researching new technologies, enhancing existing tooling and processes, and providing technical recommendations for equipment and strategic tooling decisions.

Preferred Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in highcavitation, closetolerance thermoplastic injection mold design, including part moldability, gating strategies, and cooling optimization.
- Strong proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD) and simulation tools such as MoldFlow and MoldCool for analyzing flow, cooling, and warp.
- Indepth knowledge of hot runner systems, including design considerations, material flow behavior, and maintenance requirements.
- Understanding of tool steels, surface treatments, hardness specifications, and coatings used in mold fabrication for durability and performance.
- Knowledge of plastic materials used in medical device manufacturing, including resin selection, shrink rates, and molding behavior.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or Design required.
- 4 + years of handson experience with plastic injection molds
- Occasional business travel required
- Regular and predictable attendance

Salary Range: $85,300 - $95,300
The targeted range for this role takes into account a range of factors that are considered when making compensation and hiring decisions; included but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
