About This Position

Manager Coding and Education

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing coding quality and education across the coding and CDI teams to ensure accurate, compliant, and consistent coding practices. Provides leadership to supervisors and staff, oversees workflow, and implements training initiatives to enhance coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational performance. Applies advanced coding and CDI knowledge to identify trends, resolve issues, and drive continuous process improvements.
Essential Functions:
• Monitors and reviews coding reports to proactively identify trends and recurring patterns in coding inaccuracies, enabling early detection of potential compliance or quality issues.
• Recognizes, investigates, and analyzes coding errors to determine underlying root causes, such as knowledge gaps, process deficiencies, or system-related challenges.
• Designs and develops comprehensive training materials and delivers ongoing education sessions to promote coding excellence incorporating latest standards in coding and CDI.
• Develops and delivers targeted training and educational interventions tailored to address specific coding issues, improve accuracy, and enhance overall coding quality.
• Ensures teams consistently stay up to date with the latest coding standards, regulatory requirements, and industry protocols by regularly disseminating updates.
• Tracks and evaluates the effectiveness of training initiatives by collecting and analyzing performance metrics, soliciting participant feedback, and generating comprehensive reports to assess knowledge retention, skill improvement, and the overall impact on coding accuracy and compliance.
• Manages and oversees supervisor(s) and individual contributors, including assigning work, monitoring performance, providing coaching, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience Requirement:
4-5 years of related/progressive experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures:
RHIA Certification, CPMA, CCDS, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred
