EHS Manager

Why We Need You
We are looking for a proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to develop, implement, and oversee our environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of safety and sustainability across all job sites. Your role is critical in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and environmental standards. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with all employees to promote a safe and environmentally responsible work environment, conduct regular site inspections, and provide training. Your expertise in construction safety and environmental practices will help us identify potential hazards and opportunities for improvement, contributing directly to our commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
Your Regular Responsibilities
Develop and Implement EHS Programs:
  • Create, review, and update the company's EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and state and local regulations.
  • Develop site-specific EHS plans for projects, addressing unique risks and ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Lead the development of emergency response plans, ensuring all staff are trained and aware of emergency procedures.
Safety, Health, and Environmental Training:
  • Conduct safety and environmental training sessions for new hires and existing employees, ensuring that all personnel understand EHS standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Offer ongoing training on critical topics such as trench safety, hazard communication, confined space entry, and spill response.
Incident and Injury Management:
  • Collaborate with HR to develop injured worker plans, including modified or light-duty assignments, ensuring alignment with company policies and workers' compensation guidelines.
  • Lead investigations of job site accidents, incidents, near-misses, and injuries, identifying root causes and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including training logs, inspection reports, and incidents records, for regulatory and internal use.
Site Observation, job visits, Safety performance verification:
  • Perform regular job site EHS observations to identify hazards, verify compliance with safety and environmental protocols, and ensure adherence to regulations.
  • Document findings, prepare detailed reports, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Follow up on corrective actions to ensure safety and environmental issues are resolved promptly and do not recur.
Environmental Compliance:
  • Monitor and manage environmental programs, including stormwater pollution prevention, and air quality management.
  • Conduct observations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards, prepare reports, and recommend improvements as necessary.
  • Serve as the company's point of contact for environmental inspections and reporting.
Promote a Safety-First and Environmentally Responsible Culture:
  • Serve as a resource for all employees, providing guidance and answering questions about EHS procedures and regulations.
  • Foster a proactive EHS culture by encouraging open communication, recognizing safe and sustainable behaviors, and reinforcing the importance of safety and environmental stewardship at all levels.
  • Attend and actively participate in project meetings, providing input on EHS concerns and ensuring that EHS considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations, as well as industry standards and client requirements, and ensure ongoing compliance across all operations.
  • Manage EHS certifications, records, permits, and required documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and retention requirements are met.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory and third-party interactions, including OSHA, environmental agencies, fire authorities, and external EHS consultants. Lead audits and inspections, ensure timely and professional responses, and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Support, maintain, and improve participation in AGC, ASSP, and NUCA programs, including tracking compliance elements, preparing documentation for reviews, and implementing program action items to maintain good standing.
Your Team for Collaboration & Support
You will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). You will work closely with the CEO, COO, project managers, site superintendents, and the HR team. You will collaborate with all levels of field personnel to ensure that EHS protocols are understood and followed, and you will engage with external consultants as needed.

Technical Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
  • Bilingual Preferred but not Required
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer Certification (OSHA 500 and OSHA 501) is required.
  • CSP and/or SHEP credentials are required.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory MVR.
  • 5+ years of experience in EHS management, with at least 3 years in the construction, trenching/excavation industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing EHS programs and reducing incident rates on job sites.
  • Proficiency with EHS management software and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
