About This Position

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the Operations Supervisor role in our Jamestown, CA facility.

JOB SUMMARY

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating shift employees to maximize production, shipping and paperwork.

Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:

SAFETY:

  • Helps ensure the safety of all plant personnel.
  • Consistent enforcement of company safety policies and rules.
  • Implements new policies and procedures to improve Plant safety and condition.
  • Ensures that all employees are provided the proper PPE and utilize it as required
  • Supports the plant with housekeeping plans, assessments, and audits.
  • Supports the implementation of new systems to maintain and improve upon the safety culture of the plant.

OPERATIONS:

  • Ensures that the plant is meeting the needs and demands of the customers.
  • Ensures that staffing is adequate and working on the proper task.
  • Assists in managing PTO requests and scheduling OT as needed.
  • Ensures that SOPs are followed and product is produced, packaged, and shipped as needed.
  • Ensures that all plant personnel are properly following all procedures, including the use of any required PPE/safety related device.
  • Helps facilitate training – operational, task, safety, etc.
  • Directs the work force in the plant (system operation), packaging, and warehouse.
  • Assists with production scheduling and inventory, mentoring shift supervisors.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance techs/Maintenance Supervision to insure equipment is operating effectively and maintained.
  • Supervises and audits the raw material receiving process.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Ensures that all paperwork is completed as required (complete, accurate, and timely).
  • Supports the monthly inventory cycle count as directed.
  • Ensures that any discipline need is discussed with the General Manager.
  • Implements new policies as needed.

EVALUATIONS:

  • Completes and presents performance evaluations for shift employees.
  • Recommends promotions or transfers of personnel.
  • Verifies accuracy of time cards for payroll.
  • Monitors attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to plant rules.
  • Recommends and implements disciplinary action as required.

QUALITY:

  • Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.

HOUSEKEEPING:

  • Sets goals and expectations and communicates purpose, looks for ways to eliminate problem sources and monitors housekeeping and provides related feedback.
  • Assure all daily mobile equipment checks are completed at the beginning of each shift.
  • Assure all weekly blow down & cleaning schedules are completed and signed off.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Develops key initiatives that reduce costs and improve the operation
  • Work shifts and times as needed to meet customer demands (including OT and Sundays)

PERSONAL GROWTH:

  • Attends and participates in scheduled plant meetings. Be alert to those around you, including peers, reporting personnel, customers, competitors; learning as you listen and observe.
  • Establish personal goals and work with fellow employees towards continuous improvement to utilize, stretch and further develop our individual and collective abilities.

Secondary duties: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

·High School Diploma or G.E.D. (required)

· Associates or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)

· Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

EXPERIENCE

· 5 years Supervisory experience (preferred)

· 5 years Industrial equipment (preferred)

· 5 years Manufacturing experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (full shifts up to 8-12 hours).

· Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch to inspect machinery or assist with maintenance.

· Must be able to move quickly in emergency or safety - critical situations.

· Ability to lift, push, or pull objects up to 40-50lbs independently.

· May occasionally assist with heavier loads with mechanical assistance or team lifting.

· Use of hands and fingers to operate tools, computers, and machinery controls.

· Good visual acuity to inspect equipment, read paperwork, and monitor safety conditions.

· Adequate hearing to detect alarms, communicate in noisy environments, and conduct safety meetings.

· Ability to work in hot, dusty, noisy, or humid environments typical of wood flour or industrial manufacturing settings.

· Proper wearing of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, composite boots, respirators, etc.) for extended periods.

· Ability to react quickly to hazardous or emergency situations.

· Regular physical inspections of the plant require frequent walking throughout large production areas.

· May require working non-standard shifts, including nights or weekends, depending on production schedules.

COMPENSATION

$35.00 - $42.00 an hour
