Job Title: Accountant III

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee an accounting section and perform professional accounting or auditing work in support of the County's financial management systems.
• Oversee and maintain the County's Chart of Accounts within Workday, including reviewing and evaluating requests for new financial data elements (e.g., worktags, ledger accounts, cost centers, funds, grants, and programs).
• Coordinate the creation, configuration, and maintenance of approved Chart of Accounts values within Workday to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
• Assist with testing, validation, and deployment of Workday Chart of Accounts updates and system enhancements to ensure alignment with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Maintain and update accounting policies, procedures, and job aids to reflect Workday processes, workflows, internal controls, and reporting structures.
• Assist in preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), including performing transaction analysis and preparing adjusting journal entries to ensure accurate reporting for external audits.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations; validate data conversions during system migrations; ensure supporting documentation is complete; identify discrepancies; and coordinate corrective actions.
• Provide shared oversight for electronic payroll and ACH activities, supporting regular, elected, and retirement payrolls, and ensuring accurate direct deposits, deferred compensation contributions, and unemployment insurance wage reporting.
• Review proposed legislation to ensure proper alignment with Workday financial structures and appropriate use of worktags and ledger accounts.
• Participate in Workday implementation and post–go-live optimization efforts, including data mapping, testing, parallel runs, and validation of migrated financial data.
• Collaborate with IT and departmental stakeholders to resolve system issues and enhance financial system functionality.
• Cross-train with the Capital Asset Accountant to develop knowledge of fixed asset accounting processes, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, construction-in-progress, and reconciliation to the general ledger within Workday.
• Participate in capital asset system configuration, reporting, and process documentation to support knowledge transfer and prepare for future transition into the Capital Asset Accountant role.

Minimum Qualifications

• Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
