About the Role:

The Financial Controller plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the financial operations specific to construction-related activities. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with industry standards, and effective payroll administration tailored to the unique demands of HVAC projects. The role involves close collaboration with project managers and accounting teams to monitor budgets, control costs, and optimize financial performance. The Financial Controller is responsible for implementing robust accounting practices that align with construction accounting specifics, ensuring timely payroll processing and regulatory adherence. Ultimately, this role drives financial integrity and supports strategic decision-making to foster sustainable growth within the HVAC construction sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial controlling or accounting roles within the construction industry.
  • Proven expertise in payroll administration and payroll processing.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems relevant to construction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
  • Experience specifically within the HVAC sector or mechanical contracting industry.
  • Familiarity with advanced construction project management software and ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing finance teams in a construction environment.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of payroll administration and processing to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain and reconcile construction-specific accounting records, including job costing, contract billing, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, forecasts, and budgets to support project management and executive leadership.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve financial processes within the HVAC construction environment.

The required skills of payroll administration and payroll processing are essential for ensuring that all employees are compensated accurately and on time, which is critical in maintaining workforce satisfaction and compliance with labor laws. Construction accounting specifics require the Financial Controller to apply specialized knowledge in job costing, contract management, and revenue recognition to accurately track project financials and profitability.
