Forman School seeks a colleague to join the English Department. An English teacher at Forman develops a love of reading, writing, and literature and a curiosity about the world around them. The ideal candidate aims to develop students in all aspects and skills of mastering the English language. The ideal candidate should be forward-thinking in their pedagogical outlook and interested in the entire educational process.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of English classes
- Collaborate with members of the Cognition & Learning Department in the design, teaching, and support of English classes
- Utilize a diverse array of activities, materials, media, and techniques to create a rich educational experience
- Develop curricula that provide a robust experiential learning experience that promotes deeper thinking
- Provide consistent, timely, and constructive feedback both in writing and verbally
- Foster an environment in which students learn to think critically and independently
- Demonstrate patience and empathy with adolescents and focus on fully developing well-rounded individuals
- Implement best practices to support the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences
- Attend department meetings and other meetings as assigned
- Serve as a member of a dorm family
- Coach one season of an extracurricular activity
- Other duties as assigned
Educational and Experiential Background and Credentials
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field
- 3+ years of teaching experience
- Student-centered educator, skilled in facilitating student discussion and collaboration
- Experience in curriculum design and innovative teaching practices
- Ability to write clearly and effectively in a variety of formats
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate well and effectively with colleagues, parents, and students alike
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in English or a related field
- Prior experience working with students with diagnosed learning differences
- Prior experience in a boarding school setting
Other Expectations
This position is a member of a boarding school faculty. Candidates should be interested in contributing outside of the classroom and becoming fully involved in the student life program. Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of school life.
