Position Overview
The Night Auditor is responsible for overseeing nightly hotel operations, balancing daily financial transactions, and providing exceptional guest service overnight hours. This role ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, supports property safety and security, and it may serve as the primary point of contact for guests during evening and overnight shifts within a full-service hotel environment.
What You'll Do
Night Audit & Financial Accuracy
- Balance and audit all daily hotel transactions, including room charges, payments, adjustments, and revenue postings.
- Reconcile Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other outlet revenue reports.
- Run night audit reports and prepare daily summary packets for management.
- Resolve discrepancies by reviewing and correcting posting errors.
- Ensure compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls.
Guest Service & Front Desk Operations
- Greet, check in, and check out guests with courtesy and efficiency.
- Assist guests with inquiries, reservations, room changes, and hotel information.
- Address and resolve guest concerns using effective service recovery.
- Manage late arrivals, early departures, wake-up calls, and VIP requests.
- Monitor and respond to guest needs promptly and professionally.
Safety, Security & Overnight Monitoring
- Maintain awareness of all property entrances, alarms, and overnight activities.
- Follow safety and emergency procedures, including incident reporting.
- Communicate with security or management regarding safety concerns.
- Complete regular walk-throughs of hotel public areas, hallways, and facilities.
Systems, Reporting & Communication
- Operate hotel PMS, POS, and reporting systems with accuracy.
- Update guest accounts, room status, and reservation details.
- Communicate any operational issues to morning staff and management.
- Maintain organized nightly logs and documentation for follow-up needs.
Front Office Support Duties
- Assist with preparing arrival reports, registration materials, and next-day setup.
- Process no-shows, cancellations, and modifications according to policy.
- Manage cash handling procedures, including balancing cash drawers and deposits.
- Assist with lobby cleanliness and maintain a welcoming front desk environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide support to other departments when needed during overnight hours.
- Coordinate with Housekeeping and Engineering for urgent requests or room needs.
- Participate in ongoing training and development sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Front Office and hotel operations.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.
What You'll Bring
Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Previous night audit or hotel front desk experience preferred.
- Experience using PMS and POS systems preferred.
- Accounting, cash handling, or customer service experience preferred.
- Training or coursework in hospitality or business preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial tasks.
- Excellent guest service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm during high-pressure situations.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment.
- Proficiency with computers and ability to learn hotel systems efficiently.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs.
