About This Position

Description:

Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.

We have an opening for a part-time Center Director primarily for the Central Community Center facility. The Center Director is responsible for the daily operations of the Central Community Center, Lions Recreation Center and/or RecPlex Facility under the supervision and direction of the Facility Manager.

The Center Director must be at least 21 years old and be and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay for the Center Director is $17 per hour. Plus we offer park district facility benefits.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Properly administer all duties associated with the daily operation including opening and closing the facility.

Handle incoming phone calls and route to the appropriate team member.

Become proficient in RegSys (park district registration software). Handle cash register transactions and program registrations. Assist front line staff with membership upgrades, refunds, transfers, all RegSys transactions and complex transaction situations. Become proficient in park district online registration.

Implement and coordinate facility emergency action plan as needed including proper use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED). Ensure the proper functioning of AED on a daily basis.

Count and log cash drawers, banks and deposits/close-outs daily. If discrepancies are determined, work to rectify resolution.

Confirm facility set-ups are complete and accurate for daily operation.

Monitor patrons in the facility.

Complete safety inspection sheets and report safety hazards. Make recommendations for both facility and operational improvements.

Submit maintenance requests as needed.

Participate in safety training sessions and submit safety suggestions as needed.

Be familiar with all District policies and procedures. Develop the ability to make decisions within District regulations.

Responsible for raising and lowering gym dividers and baskets as needed.

Complete reports thoroughly and accurately as required.

May be scheduled to work at other park district facilities as needed.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, return supplies and equipment to the appropriate location when finished. Be able to set up for pickleball, basketball or other facility activities.

May be scheduled to work at other park district facilities as needed.

Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.

All other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation and /or Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 21 years old.

Must be a high school graduate, with a minimum of two years of experience in recreation, facility management, customer service and/or hospitality management. A background or previous experience with recreation computer registration systems is a plus.

Must be proficient in Google Workspace (or Microsoft Office) and internet portals.

Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for coordination of work and safety purposes, and in emergency situations if needed.

Must possess great customer service skills including a pleasant demeanor and cooperative attitude.

Must be able to handle all business for the public in a professional manner and appearance. Must be able to work well with others, as well as work independently with minimal supervision.

Must be reliable and display consistent attendance and work ethic. Must possess strong supervisory skills.

Must be able to administer and complete multiple projects during the work day.

Must be willing and able to attain CPR/AED certification within one (1) month of employment and maintain throughout employment.

Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

This position involves sitting, standing and lifting throughout the day. Must be able to lift 20+ pounds if needed. Must be able to use hands for coordination of work, safety and handling of equipment.

Due to the needs of the Park District, evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed 40 hours at times, but less than 1,000 hours per year.
