About This Position

Description:

Teller County's Department of Human Services located in Woodland Park, CO is seeking an experienced supervisor to provide leadership, coordination, and consultation in the planning and delivery of services for a unit/section that provides child welfare intake and prevention services and programs, including Youth in Conflict and Child Protection; position will be responsible for supervising 5-7 personnel.

What You'll Do

(1) Plan, organize, implement and oversee work in assigned programs and functions.

(2) Direct work of assigned staff to ensure unit and hotline coverage, efficiency, and effectiveness in managing caseload; assign specific duties according to staff knowledge and skill; provide supervision and consultation in accomplishing tasks; ensure staff compliance with training and certification requirements; provide written and verbal instructions to staff to explain policies and procedures to facilitate quality professional practices.

(3) Develop systematic methods of implementing and monitoring, programming, including decision-making on screening and assessment of child abuse and neglect referrals to ensure child safety, adherence to required timeframes, and compliance with county, state and federal regulations; review and approve assessments for completion including risk and safety assessments and contact documentation; participate and lead in Review Evaluate and Direct (RED) Team meetings.

(4) Lead weekly unit meetings to discuss updates and establish and monitor guidelines; implement Intake unit and program objectives in conjunction with the Ongoing unit.

(5) Determine resources required to achieve goals and priorities; interview and participate in the selection and hiring of employees for unit and agency.

(6) Prepare, review and edit reports and correspondence as needed; maintain accurate, complete and confidential case records; compile and report monthly intake data.

(7) Collaborate with other agencies and the community as the representative of the Department to coordinate programs to develop joint projects, implement more effective and efficient services and provide training and workshops; build positive relationships with law enforcement, schools, court and service providers.

(8) Conducts and participates in staff meetings and consultations with caseworkers; meets with each caseworker in the unit per supervision protocol to discuss assessments and address caseworker performance; conducts annual formal performance evaluations and goal setting with staff.

(9) Collects, reports and monitors unit statistics, data, outcomes and performance; approves and routes service authorizations.

(10) Responsible for participation in Judicial District IV meetings and other county/regional and state meetings and conferences; attend court hearings and testify as needed.

(11) Resolve concerns, complaints and appeals from staff, clients, agencies and/or State Complaint office.

(12) Serve as liaison with community partners and stakeholders; participate in inter-agency committees and meetings as required.

Requirements:

What You'll Bring:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in social or behavioral science, Master’s preferred
  • Five (5) years of post-degree experience providing social services, including three (3) years of experience at or above Social Caseworker III level
  • At least two (2) years of experience supervising human services staff strongly preferred
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Knowledge of: principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; management and supervisory principles and methods; human behavior, grieving, loss, abnormal behavior, substance abuse, child abuse and domestic violence; law and court systems; applicable statutes and regulations including Children’s Code and other rules and regulations pertaining to adult and child welfare; case work principles case planning and practices; community development and organization.

Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments with minimum direction and supervision; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; to understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, procedures and protocols; working in a deadline driven environment; initiating and responding to medium volume of daily calls/contact; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.

Ability to: communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; maintain confidentiality and discretion; be a self-starter; successfully accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently or within a team environment; work with minimal supervision; deal with a variety of people, cultures, problems and circumstances; analyze and resolve problems involving several variables; understand and carry out written and oral instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy; provide effective supervision of staff.

Additional Details About the Role:

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate by talking and hearing in person and by telephone; ability to see and read printed materials and documents, characters on a computer screen and office machines.

Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position works in an office setting with daily routine computer usage; requires the ability to drive a vehicle; light physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl or climb; ability to lift, pull or drag up to 25 lbs. for short periods of time.

Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed in an office setting; frequent travel to community and State of Colorado meetings and training as required.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; must be able to work a flexible schedule; including some evenings and weekends; subject to unscheduled call-out based on Hotline emergency; subject to on call duty after business hours.

License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to successfully complete Colorado Welfare Caseworker and Supervisor Training Academies within established timeline.

Additional Requirements: The ability to pass all background checks (CBI, etc.) and ability to pass a urinalysis test prior to employment. Successful completion of the Colorado State Supervisor Training Academy within established timeline.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $72,158 - 75,765 annually

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Woodland Park, on site
