What You’ll Do

As a Radiology Tech, you will report to the Imaging Supervisor, the Staff Radiologic Technologist performs general radiology procedures and other related functions in the daily operation of the Radiology Department. The Radiologic Technologist is also under the direction of physicians and administrator.

Radiology Tech Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of all Radiology and office equipment used in the department, including:
    • Maintenance and service requirements for all equipment
    • Operational use of all equipment
    • Obtaining required documentation for exams (orders, demographic sheets, etc.)
    • Entering exam orders into the Meditech system
    • Answering phones, taking messages, scheduling patients, and providing exam preparation instructions
    • Faxing and distributing reports to appropriate locations
    • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date filing systems
    • Releasing CDs according to established procedures
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Radiology procedures, including:
    • Proficiency in general, fluoroscopic, portable, and C-arm procedures
    • Cross-training in at least one additional modality (CT, Mammography, or Ultrasound)
    • Preparing patients for X-ray procedures, including gowning and transport
    • Knowledge of contrast media, potential reactions, and appropriate response actions
  • Participates in continuing education by:
    • Attending departmental and in-service meetings per guidelines
    • Completing required CEUs:
    • RT (R): 24 CEUs every 24 months
    • RT (M): 15 CEUs every 36 months
    • RDMS: 30 CEUs every 36 months
  • Performs additional duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Assisting radiologists, staff, and emergency department physicians as needed
    • Completing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities as assigned by supervisor
    • Contributing positively to departmental efficiency and improvement initiatives

What You Bring

As a Radiology Tech, it require knowledge of radiation-emitting units and demonstrates the ability to properly position patients for all examinations. You must demonstrate analytical skills necessary to evaluate and determine the quality of radiographs, as well as well-developed communication skills to effectively understand and follow both written and verbal instructions. Second modality training is required in areas such as CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, or MRI. The role also requires seeking guidance as needed and maintaining knowledge of, and compliance with, all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and hospital policies related to assigned duties. Additionally, compliance with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct is required, including adherence to federal and hospital requirements for protected health information and patient privacy. Completion of assigned HealthStream training modules on an annual basis is mandatory. Attendance at one in-service annually to review hospital policies and procedures is required, or alternatively, completion of the staff orientation presentation on the intranet with submission of the corresponding quiz to Human Resources

Required Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through high school diploma or equivalent and/or graduation from an approved school of radiology technology with subsequent registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and certification by the State Board of Health.
  • Technologists licensed after 1984, must be a graduate of the American Medical Association of Radiological Technology.
  • Previous experience as a staff technologist is preferred.
  • Must have or able to obtain Indiana Radiological Technologist license.
