Position Summary:
The Senior Research Scientist 2 at the UNM Health Sciences Center for NativeAmerican Health (CNAH) independently interprets, organizes, and executescomplex public health research and programming initiatives to engage TribalNations and Urban Native American communities in local actions that address thesocial and structural determinants of health. This position will formulate andconduct systematic investigations of considerable scope and complexity,develops and tests model concepts and evaluation approaches, includingIndigenous evaluation methodologies, and applies rigorous scientific researchprinciples to community-engaged and implementation research.

The Senior Research Scientist 2 collaborates with principal investigators, Tribal and urban Native partners,and interdisciplinary and mixed methods teams to design, analyze, anddisseminate research findings; prepares grant proposals and multifacetedbudgets; and serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on fundedprojects.

The Senior Research Scientist 2 co-directsCNAH's Public Health Core and works collaboratively across CNAH's ResearchCore, Student and Tribal Health Workforce Development Core, and Health PolicyCore to integrate research, training, and policy translation. The role providestechnical leadership and consultation to research staff and trainees,contributes to peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations, andmaintains expertise in state-of-the-art public health science, implementationscience, and evaluation frameworks.

This positionrequires independent judgment in defining the scope and direction of integratedresearch programs of broad significance and representing CNAH in externalcollaborations and professional leadership activities.

• Experience inleading the development, definition, and direction of local actions thataddress social and structural determinants of health, integrating research,training, and policy translation activities
• Ability toprovide technical guidance and leadership to professional staff on the use of state-of-the-artpublic health science, Indigenous evaluation, and implementation sciencemethodologies
• Ability to develop and implement funding strategies and programs; experience ingrant writing[BJB1] and peer-reviewed publication
