About This Position
We are seeking a courteous, organized, and culturally sensitive Front Desk/Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The Front Desk/MA is a dual-role professional responsible for providing high-quality administrative and clinical support within a fast-paced primary care environment. This individual serves as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a welcoming environment while also assisting the Medical Director and clinical staff with direct patient care. The ideal candidate balances clerical efficiency with clinical competence to ensure equitable, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner
- Check-in and check-out patients, verifying demographic and insurance information
- Collect co-pays, payments, and provide receipts as needed including sliding scale
- Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and cancel appointments using EHR system
- Answer and route incoming calls, respond to messages, and provide information regarding services
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies
- Verify insurance eligibility, including Medicaid, Medicare, and sliding fee scale documentation
- Assisting doctors in providing and updating medical histories and contact information in patient file
- Ability to performed standard care procedure such as:
- drawing blood, checking vitals and/or collecting lab samples
- Comfortable discussing sensitive health issues with patients
- Ability to uphold patient confidentiality with the utmost professionalism
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant/Administrative Medical Assistant program.
- Designation as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- 1–2 years of clinical medical assisting experience preferred; experience in an FQHC or community health setting is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
