The University of Pittsburgh is searching for a Laboratory Research Technician IV in the Ophthalmology Department.
BS in biology or related fields, with 3 years of relevant experience. Prior experience with large animal research, regulatory compliance offices (like IACUC), and immunohistochemistry is preferred.
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential Functions
The Lab Technician IV will be engaged in the performance of approved research projects according to defined and newly established protocols and procedures. These include the appropriate collection, recording, storage, data analysis, and reporting of results. Laboratory procedures and techniques include, but are not limited to, handling and care of large animal models (e.g., minipigs), surgery, cannulation, tissue dissecting, tissue sectioning, tissue culturing, immunohistochemistry, and basic microscopy. Other duties include preparation of reagents, calibration of equipment for research projects, collaborative efforts with other laboratories employing molecular biology techniques and maintenance of a safe laboratory-working environment.
Physical Effort
Some physical effort is required, for example, moving and lifting boxes containing laboratory supplies and equipment (e.g. computer monitors). The Lab Technician may also be required to sit and work at a laboratory bench or cryostat to prepare cryosections for extended periods of time.
