Job Description

Description:

Full-Time, Exempt

Summary:

This position is a high-level technical and project management role responsible for managing multiple customer projects simultaneously, from initial customer engagement and sales support through engineering coordination, manufacturing execution, and delivery. The Technical Project Manager works closely with customers, sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to define requirements, recommend appropriate Simplex products and solutions, and ensure projects are executed accurately and on schedule.

This is a full-cycle, cross-functional position requiring strong technical aptitude, critical thinking, and advanced project management skills. The role is not limited to a single project, product line, or department, but instead requires oversight of a diverse portfolio of active work. The Technical Project Manager is expected to be a hands-on professional who is actively engaged with customers, knowledgeable of manufacturing processes, and capable of driving projects from concept through successful use of the product in the field.

Duties:

  • Work directly with customers, sales representatives, and engineers during the early stages of projects to determine suitable Simplex products and system configurations for specific design applications.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive quotations for highly customized products and services based on customer requirements and technical specifications.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects from initial inquiry through order entry, engineering coordination, manufacturing, and final delivery.
  • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and requirements and accurately communicate those requirements to engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers, contractors, consulting engineers, and sales representatives.
  • Maintain daily communication with customers via phone and email to clarify specifications, confirm expectations, and provide project updates.
  • Ensure projects are progressing according to established schedules, deadlines, and customer expectations.
  • Identify missing information, potential risks, or scope changes and proactively drive resolution.
  • Communicate change orders, design revisions, and scope adjustments promptly to affected departments.
  • Follow up on quotations and proposals to support conversion into sales orders.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of Simplex products, manufacturing processes, and system capabilities.
  • Participate in technical seminars, customer presentations, and trade shows as required.
  • Provide comprehensive service and support for assigned sales accounts and customer relationships.

This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of job duties. Other job-related responsibilities will be assigned as needed.

Requirements:
  • Technical background including education and/or experience equivalent to a 4-year technical degree; preferably in an electrical or engineering-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years successful experience in a technical sales, applications engineering, or project management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated successful oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and handle high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work and communicate across various departments and levels within the organization in both an office and manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to travel to job site if required by the project specification.
  • Computer skills including familiarity with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Access.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD a plus.
  • Ability to learn and understand Simplex products, systems, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Must be able to communicate (read, write, and speak) the English language clearly.
