About This Position

Summary: This position is responsible for working and communicating effectively with the Individual and Family Services Coordinator and the FDB team regarding all areas of the bakery, while with supporting high school transition students with intellectual or developmental disabilities to gain work experience(s) that will assist in preparing them for their transition into the workforce.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Opening and/or closing the bakery as required by scheduled shifts.
  • Checking products for quality and identifying damaged or expired goods.
  • Evaluating the quality of food ingredients or prepared goods.
  • Setting time and speed controls for mixing machines, so that ingredients will be mixed or cooked according to instructions.
  • Measuring or weighing ingredients to prepare batters, dough, or icings, using scales or graduated containers.
  • Making dough, cutting biscuits, and placing them in pans, molds, or on sheets and baking in production ovens.
  • Operating cooking, baking, or other food preparation equipment.
  • Evaluating the quality of food ingredients or prepared foods to ensure that standards and specifications are met.
  • Checking equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations and perform maintenance or cleaning, as necessary.
  • Conducting bakery deliveries.
  • Assisting customers with special orders and product selection.
  • Stocking displays to ensure we have a variety of products available for our customers.
  • Ensuring compliance with all food safety and sanitation requirements throughout daily work.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Following recipes and makeup procedures while preparing and baking items such as dog biscuits, pup cakes or other special orders.
  • Decorating pup cakes for our customers to enjoy.
  • Taking and preparing special orders online, in person and on the telephone.
  • Greeting customers when they arrive at the store and ask if they need assistance.
  • Assisting with the promotional materials for the bakers; assist with and attend vendor/community.
  • Making donation baskets and baskets for display/sale.
  • Processing sales transactions at the POS (point-of-sale) counter.
  • Building rapport with customers and providing them with guidance and support
  • Assisting with preparations for displays/windows/trade shows/etc.
  • Providing support and training in the bakery to transition students and production staff, providing meaningful feedback as needed.
  • Providing input to other agency staff regarding program participants’ needs and desires.
  • Attending all scheduled staff meetings and training courses.
  • Communicating openly with team members – to help each employee succeed and ensure the best possible service, information regarding support provided and team performance, and ideas for improving both, must be expressed openly.
  • Arriving on time for scheduled work time and remaining with participants supported by Life Works.
  • Notifying supervisor or designated on-call staff, as soon as possible, of illness or emergencies that necessitate missing a regularly scheduled work shift.
  • Following all agency policies.
  • Provides backup coverage, when and where needed, for vacations, illness, or other emergencies.

Education, Experience and Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma, GED or above
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets agency policy
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Must complete and pass department background check
  • Must pass successful a drug screen
  • Have a current CPR/First aid certification required or must obtain one prior to working (agency will pay)
  • Have a current Food Handler’s Card or must obtain one prior to working (agency will pay)
  • Customer service experience preferred

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to appropriately handle job stress, to work under pressure or time constraints
  • Must be able to be around household chemicals and fumes (i.e., cleaning supplies, etc.)

Monday - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Tuesday - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Wednesday - 9:15 AM to 5:15 PM
Thursday - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Friday - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Off
40 Hours
