POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Care Services provides executive-level clinical leadership and oversight for all assisted living and memory care clinical operations across the organization’s national portfolio. This role functions as the organization’s senior clinical operations leader and is responsible for ensuring excellence in care delivery, regulatory compliance, resident safety, and operational alignment across all communities.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Care and Compliance, the Director of Care Services leads the National Directors of Resident Care and works closely with Operations leadership to drive clinical strategy, risk mitigation, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance across multiple states.
This position ensures that clinical programs support both resident well-being and operational performance, integrating quality assurance, workforce optimization, and regulatory excellence into daily operations.
Guided by the organization’s pillars of Excellence, Human Focus, and Creativity, the Director of Care Services champions innovative clinical programs, data-driven decision making, and continuous improvement in care delivery systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Clinical Leadership
- Provide strategic clinical leadership across the organization’s assisted living and memory care communities.
- Lead and mentor the National Directors of Resident Care, ensuring consistent clinical practices, leadership development, and operational alignment across regions.
- Establish and maintain enterprise-wide standards for resident care delivery, clinical documentation, and care planning.
- Serve as the primary clinical partner to operations leadership, ensuring clinical initiatives align with operational performance and resident experience.
- Drive the organization’s long-term clinical strategy, including innovation in care delivery models, technology integration, and clinical program development.
Oversight of National Clinical Leadership
- Provide direct leadership and accountability for the National Directors of Resident Care, ensuring consistency and excellence in regional clinical oversight.
- Support regional clinical teams in addressing complex clinical, operational, and regulatory challenges.
- Ensure regional leaders are equipped with the tools, training, and resources necessary to support community-level Health and Wellness Directors.
- Promote leadership development and succession planning within the clinical leadership pipeline.
Quality Assurance & Clinical Performance
- Oversee the organization’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs to ensure continuous improvement in resident care outcomes.
- Monitor key clinical indicators, including sesident safety incidents, falls and injury trends, infection control metrics, medication management, hospitalizations and clinical acuity trends.
- Implement data-driven strategies to improve outcomes and ensure consistent quality across communities.
- Partner with operations leadership to ensure clinical programs support both resident well-being and sustainable operational performance.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing assisted living and memory care across the organization’s multi-state portfolio.
- Provide guidance to communities and regional leaders during state surveys and licensing reviews, incident investigations, complaint investigations, plan of correction development.
- Partner with legal counsel and executive leadership to support litigation management, risk mitigation strategies, and regulatory responses.
- Develop and maintain internal audit and monitoring systems to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risk.
Resident Safety & Clinical Programs
- Lead enterprise initiatives focused on resident safety and clinical risk reduction.
- Oversee programs related to: Fall prevention and mitigation, Infection control, Medication management systems, Clinical documentation standards, Care planning and assessment processes.
- Analyze incident trends and implement proactive interventions to reduce risk and improve resident outcomes.
- Ensure clinical protocols support the safe care of residents with increasingly complex health needs.
Workforce Strategy & Clinical Operations
- Partner with operations and HR leadership to ensure clinical staffing models support both quality care and operational efficiency.
- Provide guidance on clinical labor optimization, scope of practice for care teams, competency development, workforce education, and training programs.
- Support communities in maintaining appropriate clinical coverage while balancing regulatory requirements and operational performance.
Clinical Training & Leadership Development
- Oversee onboarding and ongoing education for clinical leaders across the organization.
- Partner with Learning & Development to ensure training programs address regulatory compliance, clinical best practices, resident safety initiatives, and leadership development.
- Promote a culture of continuous professional development for clinical leaders.
Strategic Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate closely with executive leadership, operations, and ownership partners to ensure clinical programs support organizational growth and operational objectives.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical operations during new community onboarding, acquisitions and transitions, operational turnarounds, and regulatory strategy development.
- Maintain relationships with healthcare partners, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations to stay informed on emerging trends and best practices.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
Education:
- A bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field is required.
- A master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in assisted living, memory care, or senior housing clinical operations.
- Experience overseeing multi-state clinical operations strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading large clinical teams across multiple communities.
- Strong background in regulatory compliance and survey readiness, clinical quality assurance programs, risk management and incident response, operational integration of clinical services.
- Experience partnering with operations leadership to align clinical outcomes with organizational performance.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making abilities.
Special requirements:
- Ability to travel to Cogir communities across 13 states, up to 70% of the time.
- Must be located or willing to relocate to Phoenix, AZ.
