About This Position

Location: Fully Remote from Any US-Based Location

Reports To: Vice President of Data Analytics & AI

About Us:

At Local Crafts, we’re here to help you love what you make.

We’re a team of passionate makers who value the hands-on process and the beauty of handmade things. Crafting connects us—to ourselves, to others, and to the world. It’s our way to unwind, create, give, and sometimes, get a little wild. It’s a mindful practice that pulls us away from screens and into creativity, conversation, and yes, even a bit of math.

With a team of employees across the U.S., we design and make most of what we sell—from knitting needles and yarns to printed fabric and thread—always with care and craft at the center. Every item is tested and loved by our team, and it is this collaboration that drives us to do better every day.

We’re home to a passionate community of knitters, crocheters, quilters and sewists who come to us for the highest-quality yarns, thoughtfully designed tools, and the inspiration to bring vision to life. With a product line found nowhere else, we’re building more than a store—we’re building a movement.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Data Analyst III to play a pivotal role in building a modern, standardized data foundation that powers insight and decision-making across the organization. This role will focus on ETL design, data standardization, and metric governance while supporting dashboard development and mentoring a Jr. Analyst. Working closely with the VP of Analytics & AI, this individual will help transition the company’s current SQL data lake into a scalable, governed, and analytics-ready platform that supports AI and machine learning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain core reporting tables and ETL processes to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and consistency across all business functions.
  • Collaborate with department heads and the VP of Analytics & AI to identify business needs, define metrics, and standardize reporting practices.
  • Oversee dashboards and reporting outlines, delegating updates and visualization tasks to the Jr. Analyst while ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Design and optimize data pipelines within the existing SQL data lake, preparing for migration to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Support the development of ML/AI data readiness, ensuring ETL pipelines and datasets are structured for advanced analytics.
  • Lead data governance initiatives by defining table naming conventions, key business metrics, and data documentation for organization-wide use.
  • Mentor Jr. Analyst on reporting techniques, data literacy, and technical best practices.
  • Partner cross-functionally with business leaders to deliver actionable insights and data-driven recommendations.

Success in the First Year

6 months:

  • Stabilize and improve all critical reporting tables and ETL accuracy.
  • Establish reporting standardization across departments.
  • Help onboard Jr. Analyst and Data Engineer; prepare datasets for AI readiness.

12 months:

  • Deliver validated ML/AI-integrated datasets and leadership data self-service capabilities.
  • Establish governance framework and clear roadmap for 2027 reporting and analytics improvements.

Why This Role Matters

This position is key to transforming our analytics landscape, moving from siloed data and ad-hoc reporting to a unified, governed data platform that empowers leadership with trusted, actionable insights. The Data Analyst III will help shape our data future and directly enable the adoption of advanced analytics and AI.

Building Our Community

We believe crafting is for everyone, and so is working here. Creativity thrives when different voices, perspectives, and experiences come together. We welcome team members of all races, ethnicities, ages, religions, identities, orientations, abilities, and backgrounds.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway. We know the best teams are built by people who bring curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a love for what they do.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or business intelligence.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for data manipulation, transformation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Power BI and Excel; familiarity with R, DAX, or Power Query a plus.
  • Experience with ETL development and data pipeline automation.
  • Background in DTC (direct-to-consumer) analytics preferred, with demonstrated understanding of metrics such as acquisition, retention, and LTV.
  • Proven ability to work independently with high autonomy and minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; able to translate data into meaningful business insights.
  • Experience in mentoring or leading junior analysts is preferred.
  • Bonus points if you love yarn, crafts, or the maker movement—but curiosity and respect for our community is the most important
