Job Summary:
Qualdoc is seeking a dedicated Design Engineer to lead cross-functional teams responsible for turning ideas into functional prototypes using efficient and affordable processes, and then taking these prototypes to actual production. The ideal candidate will also evaluate current products and designs, with a focus on designing and modeling existing and new patterns. All duties will be performed within safety, quality, and production standards.Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) equipment to develop data, preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes to present design proposals to internal and external customers.
- Design and model foundry tooling such as patterns and core boxes.
- Work with the product development team to finalize new product designs, considering manufacturing capabilities.
- Create 3D CAD models of designs using SolidWorks and prepare 2D drawings for manufacturing and maintenance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop fixtures and other machining components from renderings or rough designs with contractors and vendors.
- Create layouts and drawings of complex assemblies and detailed parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
- Contribute to the design of existing and new patterns and build pattern design data.
- Support the development of technical solutions to complex problems, using creativity and ingenuity.
- Engage with senior personnel on significant technical matters that require coordination between organizations.
- Apply current technology and aid in the development of new technologies.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for design-related issues.
- Assist in determining the feasibility of new plant equipment or modifications, considering costs, space, timelines, and other technical and economic factors.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to improve project workflows.
- Ensure design and manufacturing lessons learned are incorporated into final product solutions.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Experience with 3D printing (FDM and SLA) and 3D scanning.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or 10 years of experience with designing foundry tooling.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience with foundry tooling.
- Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting abilities.
- Proficiency with various materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, and electrical components.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for projects.
- High-quality, detail-oriented work with an ability to identify key risks and dependencies.
- Cross-functional collaboration skills and data-driven decision-making abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- This position may require frequent bending, lifting, and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees should be able to perform this duty with or without reasonable accommodations.
