Volunteer Engagement ManagerLocation: New York, NYNew York Common Pantry is one of the city’s largest food pantries, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization, experiencing rapid growth and expansion at this time.

NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach. Last year, we assisted over 764,000 visitors, served over 11.7 million meals, and accessed $10.7 million in public benefits resources for our guests. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve.

Volunteers provide crucial daily operational support to assist in fulfilling NYCP’s mission. This past year, over 13,000 volunteers contributed more than 48,800 hours. As a member of the Development team, reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Volunteer Engagement Manager will recruit and onboard a diverse network of volunteers, coordinate impactful engagement opportunities, and ensure a meaningful experience for all volunteers. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will build strong internal relationships across departments and with staff at all levels, including Food Programs, Operations, and Administration. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will supervise and mentor a Volunteer Engagement Associate.

The Volunteer Engagement Manager will be located at the Manhattan location at 8 East 109th Street, New York, NY 10029. This position requires frequent travel to other NYCP program locations, off-site volunteer events, and recruitment fairs. Occasional weekend and evening work. This is a full-time, exempt position that requires on-site work five days per week.

Responsibilities:Lead and manage all aspects of NYCP’s volunteer program, overseeing recruitment, scheduling, onboarding, training, and recognition for ~13,000 volunteers annually.

Design and implement strategies and systems to optimize the volunteer journey, including recruitment, registration, onboarding, experiences, satisfaction, and retention.

Collaborate with the Food Program and Operations teams to ensure effective volunteer integration and support across all sites and services.

Oversee entry and maintain accurate records of all volunteers, using the VolunteerHub database.

Maintain an online volunteer calendar, provide up-to-date reporting on upcoming registrations, ensure all volunteer attendance is logged accurately, and ensure all onboarding documentation has been received prior to the start of volunteer shifts.

Lead and/or supervise daily volunteer orientations at the beginning of on-site activities.

Serve as “on the ground” liaison for volunteers who may have questions during the time of their shift.

Lead oversight of NYCP’s Volunteer inbox, ensuring excellent customer service and timely responses for all volunteer inquiries.

Analyze and prepare monthly reports to the CDO on volunteer engagement metrics, using data to guide decision-making and continuous improvement.

Coordinate with Development and Food Programs staff to draft content for monthly volunteer e-newsletters.

Collaborate with the CDO to create volunteer recognition programming (including an annual Volunteer Appreciation Event); coordinate special volunteer projects; and support fundraising efforts through custom corporate volunteer projects.

Collaborate with the Director of Communications & Events to identify and recognize volunteers for both print and online communications.

Represent NYCP at outreach fairs, speaking engagements, and other community events to expand volunteer recruitment and deepen public engagement in NYCP’s mission.  

Supervise and provide guidance to the Volunteer Engagement Associate.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree is required.

A minimum of three (3) years working in a customer service, volunteer relations, or alumni relations role is required; experience managing volunteer programs is preferred.

Familiarity with NYC non-profit institutions and development is preferred.

Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.

Excellent public speaking, presentation, planning, and organizational skills.

Attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Comfortable working with diverse populations. Bilingual skills are a plus.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment.

Knowledge of computer software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and other digital outreach.

Experience with database software is required; experience with Volunteerhub and Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Pay: $70,000 - $80,000/Year
