About This Position

SUMMARY: Reporting to Director of Athletic Operations, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach will design and implement the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes. This position serves all Briar Cliff University sports teams. Some weekend and holiday work will be required based on specific sports seasons and team travel. One of the essential job functions of this position is regular, on-time attendance with potential for extended hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Program design, guiding student-athletes through a regimen of exercises to optimize performance and decrease injury potential
  • Assisting with the oversight of sport-specific conditioning programs
  • Teaching proper weightlifting, speed, agility and conditioning techniques
  • Encouraging and motivating student-athletes to train and perform to their utmost potential
  • Scheduling athletic teams and supervising workouts of student-athletes
  • Player development, travel, compliance with NAIA regulations
  • Assisting in the implementation of rehab programs prescribed by the doctors and sports medicine staff.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's Degree Preferred
  • NSCA Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification or ability to attain certification within 12 months of hire
  • Minimum one year related experience and/or training;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in administering a successful strength and conditioning program at the collegiate level
  • Thorough knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Must be proficient in the instruction, assessment, evaluation, and supervision of multiple weightlifting techniques
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of fitness equipment
  • Must have a positive mental attitude and the ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, coaches, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Must be computer literate.

Essential Duties

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May directly supervise a graduate assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
