Job Description: Sewing & Embroidery Machine Operator
Reports To: Direct Sales Production Manager
Position Summary
Lord Baltimore Uniform is seeking a detail-oriented Sewing & Embroidery Machine Operator to join our production team. This role requires hands-on sewing machine experience; embroidery experience is a plus, and training will be provided for heat seal and embroidery applications. The ideal candidate is dependable, quality-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- Additional hours, including weekends, may be required during peak season or to meet production needs.
Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines to complete garment alterations, repairs, and production tasks
- Complete scheduled embroidery and heat seal transfer jobs (training provided)
- Set up machines including threading, needle changes, and basic adjustments as required
- Review, read, and interpret work orders and production specifications prior to and during production
- Ensure all finished products meet quality standards and customer requirements
- Perform in-process and final visual quality inspections
- Identify defects and take corrective action to minimize rework and material waste
- Meet established production timelines while maintaining quality standards
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform routine machine maintenance
- Monitor and maintain sewing, embroidery, and transfer supply inventory
- Accurately check in garments against packing slips and internal purchase orders
- Assemble orders per instructions and report discrepancies
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Assist with shipping/receiving (UPS/FedEx), filing, and light clerical work as needed
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience
- 1+ year of sewing machine experience required; industrial or production sewing experience strongly preferred
Skill Requirements
- Embroidery machine experience preferred; training provided
- Willingness to learn heat seal transfer applications
- Basic knowledge of garment construction, fabric handling, and material behavior during sewing and transfers
- Strong hand eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Basic troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to meet production deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Reliable attendance and punctuality required to support production schedules
- Commitment to workplace safety procedures
Technical Proficiency
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office preferred)
- Ability to use basic computer systems to track work orders, production status, and inventory
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast paced production environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 7 hours in an 8-hour shift
- Frequent bending, stretching, twisting, and repetitive motion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Visual acuity to inspect stitching, embroidery, and color accuracy
