About This Position
EYE-Q Vision Care is seeking an experienced Optical Manager to lead our optical department and serve as a key member of our leadership team. The role requires a balance of hands-on optical expertise, staff leadership, operational oversight, and exceptional patient service. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality over volume and enjoys building long-term trust with patients and staff.

We are a patient-centered, private Optometry/Ophthalmologist practice known for personalized care, quality eyewear, and a welcoming environment. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Optical Leadership & Daily Operations
Oversee all day-to-day optical department operations.
Supervise, train, and coach opticians and optical staff.
Maintain consistent workflows, standards, and policies.
Create staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage.
Service as a liaison between doctors and optical staff.
Patient Experience
Ensure each patient receives attentive, personalized eyewear guidance.
Educate patients on frame selection, lens options, and lifestyle needs.
Handle patient questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
Maintain a calm, welcoming, and service-oriented optical environment.
Sales, Performance, & Accountability
Support optical sales goals while prioritizing patient trust and ethics.
Monitor key performance indicators (capture rate, AR, remake rates).
Coach staff on confident, pressure-free patient communication.
Maintain consistent pricing and discount policies.
Inventory & Vendor Management
Manage frame and lens inventory ordering, displays, and returns.
Work with trusted vendors to curate frame boards that fit the practice’s brand.
Track inventory accuracy and avoid overstocking.
Coordinate lab relationships and resolve order issues.
Insurance & Compliance
Oversee vision insurance processes (EyeMed, VSP, private pay, etc.).
Ensure accurate billing, documentation, and compliance.
Maintain optical policies aligned with practice standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of lenses, frames, measurements, and troubleshooting.
Management, planning, budgeting, and quality improvement skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
Ability to develop and mentor others.
Strong attention to detail and consistency.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years of optical experience.
Previous optical management or lead optician experience.
Experience with vision insurance plans.
ABO certification and/or NCLE (preferred).
Private practice experience OD/MD office (preferred).
This is a full-time exempt position with a benefits package. Salary will be determined based on experience and training of the candidate. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
POSITION LOCATION: EYE-Q Vision Care practice sites are located in Fresno, Clovis, and Selma.
PAY RANGE: $86,000 - $103,000 per year depending on skills, experience, and education.
