About This Position

The Financial Counselor (FEC) builds and maintains client relationships, conducts individual and group financial
counseling sessions, and helps clients develop and implement action plans that improve financial stability. This role
provides coaching on banking, credit, debt, savings, budgeting, and related financial capability topics for
participants across SER programs.
This position monitors client progress, reassesses plans as financial circumstances change, facilitates financial
education workshops, supports community outreach and referral development, and maintains accurate participant
documentation and required program data.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY ACCOUNTABILITES
Financial Counseling & Coaching:
 Provide one-on-one and group financial counseling and coaching focused on banking access, budgeting, credit, debt
reduction, savings, and overall financial stability.
 Guide clients through progressive coaching sessions and develop individualized action plans aligned with each
participant’s financial goals.
 Recommend strategies related to cash management, access to banking for unbanked and underbanked clients, debt
repayment, credit improvement, savings, insurance, and asset development.
 Review client accounts, financial goals, and changing life or economic circumstances to determine when reassessment or
plan updates are needed.
Education, Outreach & Referral Development:
 Facilitate financial education workshops and classes on a variety of personal finance topics.
 Conduct community outreach efforts that build long-lasting partnerships and support a strong client referral network.
 Identify and refer participants to internal and external resources that support their financial goals and maintain
relationships with key community partners.
 Follow up with participants on referrals from community partners and other service providers, as applicable.
Documentation, Reporting & Program Compliance:
 Collect and verify required participant information and assessments, including the Combined Financial Health Assessment
and Financial Profile, and assist with program reporting.
 Maintain accurate and complete case records, including individual assessments, demographics, coaching notes, action
plans, and supporting documentation.
 Adhere to SER administrative and recordkeeping guidelines and ensure confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and
quality-control requirements.
 Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
