About This Position

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Director position within our Human Resources Department located at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, MB. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the operational leadership and day-to-day management of the Human Resources Department.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Oversee HR programs including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary processes, disputes, investigations, performance management, talent management, occupational health and safety, and training;
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal employment laws and governance policies;
  • Provide coaching and guidance to management on employment matters such as investigations, leaves etc.;
  • Provide reports and workplace metrics as required along with recommendations to Senior Management;
  • Implement succession plans developed by Senior Director;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR legislation and best practices;
  • Promote workplace safety and regulatory compliance;
  • Assist with preparation of operational budget submissions for review and approval.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Certificate in Human Resources Management or a substantial combination of relative and formal education and experience may be considered,
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in human resources and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in leading a team;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all HR disciplines including Recruitment, Payroll, Pension & Benefits administration, Onboarding, Learning & Development, Policy Management, Succession Planning etc;
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform effectively under pressure while adapting to shifting priorities, processes, and organizational changes;
  • Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous situations, using sound judgment to move initiatives forward;
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, communication, and decision-making skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and managing departmental budgets;
  • A team player with a natural desire to meet deliverables and exceed expectations;
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required;
  • Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle is required;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset.
