Music and Movement Teacher Lead Teacher
Position Summary:
The Music and Movement Teacher position is a full-time, benefits-eligible position for the school year, typically ten months from August to June. This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning. The Music and Movement Teacher cultivates an interactive learning atmosphere, encouraging children to thrive through play, music, and movement. The teacher fosters strong connections with students, inspiring them to enhance their skills, attitudes, and understanding aligned with curriculum objectives. Additionally, the teacher fosters positive partnerships with parents and colleagues at Fay.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Teaching daily Music and Movement classes to all Primary I and II (3 and 4-year-olds) sections
- Maintaining daily lesson plans and updating curriculum maps to reflect current student learning and development
- Collaborates with Lead Teachers to integrate inquiry project work into Music and Movement class
- Creating a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters children's development through play, music, and movement, fostering physical fitness and sportsmanship among students as well as spatial and musical awareness, creative expression, and a love for the arts.
- Initiates regular parent communication and submits communication forms.
- Tailoring lessons to meet the diverse needs and abilities of individual students
- Monitoring and assessing student progress, providing feedback, and adapting teaching strategies as needed
- Completing a report card checklist of music and motor skills for each student three times per year
- Building positive relationships with students, encouraging their participation and enthusiasm for learning
- Collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student learning and development. Actively communicating with the Primary Lead Teachers about curriculum and student progress
- Maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment
- Keeping accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, and student assessments
- Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
- Adhering to school policies and procedures, including those related to safety and child welfare
- Implementing curricula within the context of the school's overall program and strategic planning goals, integrating outdoor activities, experiential learning, and emotional intelligence-based leadership development
- Collaborating with colleagues to organize school-wide events like Fay Fun Days
- Effectively utilizing Assistant Teachers when applicable
- Maintaining and expanding pedagogical knowledge through various resources, setting annual goals, and actively participating in department meetings and in-service days
- Volunteers for service at one or more Fay community events annually
- Being willing and able to use personal smartphones to utilize school apps for communication, collaboration, and fulfilling job responsibilities outlined in the Performance Profile
- Assists Elementary Music teacher with productions and musicals
- Assists in various departments as directed by the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Knowledge of Orff Methodology in Early Childhood Music Education
- Ability to work enthusiastically indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions like rain, cold, or heat. Capable of navigating various surfaces, including grass, dirt, trails, decking, pavement, and concrete
- Capability to sustain standing and walking, navigate stairs, kneel, lift, and carry up to 20 lbs. Able to monitor children and the immediate environment visibly and audibly, and give audible instructions that are understandable by English speakers even in loud environments
- Commitment to ongoing learning, including participation in at least eight hours of summer professional development, such as conferences, books, or approved research topics by the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams
