General Accounting - FM-24850 - Tax Accountant at Shoe Carnival – Fort Mill, South Carolina

We're looking for a Tax Accountant to join our Finance team at our Fort Mill, SC headquarters someone who takes ownership of complex compliance responsibilities and brings both precision and a continuous-improvement mindset to everything they do.

What You'll Do

• Own direct and indirect tax compliance functions, including income, property, and sales & use taxes
• Maintain monthly accounting reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts with tax activity
• Support budgeting and forecasting efforts, with primary responsibility for select expense items
• Prepare periodic compliance filings and partner with third-party consultants on state and local filings, including personal property tax returns and annual reports
• Proactively identify process improvement opportunities across policies, procedures, and software
• Assist in responding to taxing authority audits and inquiries

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (required)
• Active CPA license or currently pursuing CPA designation
• Relevant experience through full-time employment and/or internships in tax or accounting
• A detail-oriented, self-starter mentality with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines without missing a beat
• Strong interpersonal skills you build positive relationships with colleagues, consultants, and taxing authorities alike
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills (required)
• Experience with Great Plains, LicenseHQ, and/or PTMS is a plus
