Transitions House, a program of Sawyer County, is seeking a dependable and compassionate Resident Assistant to support adults in a residential/day program setting. This role focuses on providing daily support, promoting independence, and maintaining a safe, respectful environment.

Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent. An Associate's Degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred. One year of experience in a residential treatment setting is also preferred. In addition, candidates must:

· Possess or obtain within a specific timeframe the required certifications, including Medication Administration, Fire Safety, First Aid, and Standard Precautions (specific to Wisconsin CBRFs).

· Valid Wisconsin driver's license.

· Background Check: Ability to pass TB test and caregiver background checks.

Sawyer County Position Description

Title: Transitions Resident Assistant - Day Shift

Location: Hayward, WI

Facility Type: Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) – Mental Health Focus

Department: Sawyer County Health and Human Services

Reports to: Transitions House Manager

Hours per week: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM

Every other Saturday: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM

Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Transitions House Manager, the Resident Assistant (RA) provides critical daily support to adults living with chronic mental illness and/or substance use disorder in a licensed CBRF setting. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment while teaching independent living and personal care skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

· Mental Health Support: Assist with implementing individualized care plans, providing emotional support, and recognizing behavioral changes. Encourage residents to voice concerns and facilitate referrals to clinical staff when necessary.

· Skill Teaching: Work alongside residents to build independence in daily tasks like grocery shopping, meal preparation, budgeting, and household maintenance.

· Medication Management: Accurately administer and document medications according to state regulations and facility protocols.

· Direct Care: Prompt residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility.

· Crisis Intervention: Respond effectively to behavioral or medical emergencies, following facility disaster and safety plans.

· Documentation: Maintain thorough records of resident progress, medication adherence, and behavioral symptoms.

· Community Integration: Transport or assist with transportation to and from medical appointments and community-based recreational activities.

· Meal Preparation: Provide light meal preparation and assistance with meals as needed

Education and Experience:

Experience: 1 year in a residential treatment setting is preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. An Associate's Degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.

Work Environment:
This facility operates 24/7/365, requiring availability for various shifts (AM/PM/Overnight), including rotating weekends and holidays.

Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Duties:

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication

Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record, and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data. Ability to counsel and mediate. Ability to persuade, convince, and train others.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while performing duties. Ability to drive. Ability to conduct fieldwork outside of the office. Ability to observe and evaluate conditions in home and community environments, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to make judgements. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, keyboard, telephone, fax machine, calculator/adding machine, and photocopier. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing movements requiring moderate skill, such as typing. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration. Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Environmental Adaptability

Ability to work in safe conditions where exposure to environmental factors, such as repetitive keyboard use, poses minimal risk of injury.
