About This Position

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator supports the daily operational requirements of the Corporate Emergency Preparedness Program. Reports to Emergency Preparedness & Response Manager.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Organizes and maintains records, operational plans, and policies to include secure databases, ensuring compliance with regulatory statutes and corporate policies.
    • Serves as a member of the Emergency Management Committee; prepares and maintains meeting minutes and agendas.
    • Updates records as required for DNV (Det Norske Veritas) compliance and provides database support for mass communication platforms such as Alert Media, Velocity/EHS, GETS and VHAAS.
    • Assists with the inventory and maintenance of records on all emergency equipment such as respirators and protective suits required for patient decontamination to include the annual set up and integrity testing of inflatable field decontamination showers used for mass casualty incidents and radiation detection equipment.
    • Assists the Manager with the maintenance of all training records and registration of staff for drills, educational workshops, and Healthstream computer-based training.
    • Assists in the preparation of Emergency Preparedness Newsletters and other media designed to educate and increase levels of preparedness.
    • Participate in the development of training exercises to evaluate written plans and to enhance ability to integrate and collaborate with community stakeholders before and during a disaster event.
    • Works with the Manager to complete annual Hazard Vulnerability Assessments (HVA) and GAP analysis surveys to identify potential risk factors and gaps in our Emergency Plans.
    • Maintains a current roster emergency contact information for the Incident Command Team.
    • Complete training and qualify to assume the responsibilities of a hospital patient decontamination team instructor in support of the Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT)
    • Complete training to acquire an FCC license to operate a short-wave radio and become a team leader in support of the health system Hospital Emergency Amateur Radio Team (HEART)
    • Complete instructor level training to train staff on the use of health system emergency patient evacuation equipment for annual drills.
    • Assist the Manager with the completion of monthly testing of the Incident Command Center satellite phone.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Required Licenses and/or Certifications
      • None required.
    • Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
      • Certified Hospital Emergency Coordinator – Basic or equivalent preferred.
      • Certified FEMA Instructor preferred.
      • Certified Stop the Bleed Instructor preferred.
      • OSHA Hazardous Response Operational Level Certification preferred.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience
      • 5 years’ work experience in Emergency Management required.
      • FEMA ICS 400 level course completion required.
    • Preferred Education and Experience
      • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management or equivalent preferred.
      • Emergency Management Instructor level experience preferred.
      • FEMA ISC 700 and 800 level course completion preferred.
      • HAZMAT Response experience preferred.
    • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
    • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Experience with publication software
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Knowledge of Compliance Standards in NFPA 99, 101, and 110.
      • Knowledge of National Integration Accreditation Healthcare Organization.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
