Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Hydraulic Route Sales position in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Hydraulic Route Sales is responsible for supporting hydraulic and machining services in an assigned territory and operating a company vehicle over an established route to accurately, promptly and safely pick up and deliver products for customers. The individual in this role will sell specified hydraulic and machining parts and services within assigned route area. Seeking candidates with 1 to 2 years of customer service and/or sales-related experience.; Prior route sales experience is a plus.

Requirements for the Hydraulic Route Sales position include:

  • Must be a self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Must have an excellent driving record.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficient computer technology skills, including ability to utilize company software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; must be comfortable calling on prospective and existing customers.
  • Excellent customer satisfaction skills and the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Must project a professional and positive image of the company.
  • Good time and territory management skills.
  • Frequent daily travel is required – overnight or out town via car or airplane is possible.
  • Must possess ability to communicate using a telephone and a computer.
  • Must be able to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to interpret data and make quick decisions.
  • Must possess ability to operate machinery and equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes and truck mounted cranes.
  • MSHA certification may be needed for picking up and dropping off at mining/quarry sites.

          Physical requirements must be met for the Hydraulic Route Sales job, including regularly being required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and /or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
