Job Description

SUMMARY
Perform duties related to the operation, cleaning, care, and maintenance of equipment used in Renal Dialysis. To provide support for clinical and biomedical staff in the form of technical care functions. Performs repairs and operates biomedical equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Have a good working knowledge of all SRS’s, Technical Policies and Procedures.
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of hemodialysis and ancillary equipment within the multiple dialysis facilities and hospitals.
Maintains record of maintenance, repairs, and disinfection on all hemodialysis related equipment.
Responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the Reverse Osmosis machines and ancillary water treatment equipment within the multiple dialysis facilities
Disinfects water treatment systems and cultures each system to ensure proper standard is met.
Performs safety checks, determines % rejection and sends water analysis on RO water treatment systems.
Implement all operational procedures for all hemodialysis equipment, including all disinfection procedures.
Assist nursing personnel in troubleshooting equipment related problems.
Reviews daily water checks on RO systems.
Trained in the preparation of "dry acid" and “bicarbonate” dialysates.
Responsible for routine and emergency equipment repair and records maintenance on all hemodialysis related equipment.
Repair all equipment with proper parts while conserving cost in equipment.
Is able to respond quickly and efficiently to any situation that occurs, i.e., leaking plumbing, light bulb change, overflowing sink, etc. as requested.
Be able to take on call duties nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
Be a key role in inventory management, auditing, and ordering.

This position requires that the employee present an example of appropriate work habits, behavior, and positive attitude toward patients, co-workers, and administration. Regular and reliable attendance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
AA Degree in electronics preferred. Three to six months on the job training to become proficient in the handling of equipment. Prior experience is desirable.

The Bio Medical Technician may also serve as a WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
TECHNICIAN and will be required to demonstrate proficiency at Dialysis Water Treatment maintenance and care by taking a written examination that is approved by the Facility’s Medical Director or must complete a training program that has been approved by the Facility’s Medical Director and Governing Body.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and write English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to complete simple arithmetic calculations.

While performing the duties of this position, employees are frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. Employees are regularly required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employees are required to lift up to 100 pounds. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle when traveling between facilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and explosives. There may be occasional exposure to blood and blood by-products. Also, the employee is required to operate a motor vehicle for transport from clinic to clinic since their assignment may involve more than one location. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
