About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The AGSE Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) will primarily be responsible for managing and implementing AGSE’s welding program requirements in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS) standards and AGSE’s Quality Management System (QMS) while also ensuring compliance to applicable customer or statutory regulations. Secondary functions will be supporting general QC Inspection activities.
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this position:
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Current American Welding Society - Certified Welding Inspector
- 5 years in a welding/fabrication environment
- 5 years in a Quality Assurance organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, measuring tape and other common metrology instrumentation
- Experience or education in advanced metallurgy (Preferred)
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Certified Welding Inspector
- CWI activities
- Create and maintain WPS’
- Creating test plans and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs)
- Monitor the welding of test coupons
- Perform destructive and nondestructive testing as qualified
- Outsource destructive and nondestructive testing as needed
- Interpret test results
- Document and file reports and data
- Generate WPS’ utilizing weld management software
- Qualify welding personnel
- Monitor the welding of test coupons
- Perform destructive and nondestructive testing as qualified
- Outsource destructive and nondestructive testing as needed
- Interpret test results
- Document and file reports and data
- Generate Welder Performance Qualification Records (W-PQR) utilizing weld management software
- Perform critical weld inspections as required by AGSE, AWS, and customer requirements
- Maintain welder continuity records utilizing weld management software
- Assist and advise Engineering department with weld related issues
- Research new methods for increased effectiveness within AGSE’s welding program
- Advise and lead the Qualified Welding Inspector (QWI) team
QWI program
- Train and qualify individuals in accordance with AGSE requirements within our QMS
- Monitor the QWI activities to ensure effectiveness, accuracy, and performance
- Generate quarterly metrics report regarding overall health of QWI program
- Research new methods for increased effectiveness within AGSE’s welding program
- Aid in generating DCRs for welding symbols and drawing corrections/improvements
Other Responsibilities and Authority
- Has authority to make decisions and to direct shop personnel regarding weld quality related issues.
- Performs various QC inspections throughout the facility utilizing various visual and dimensional inspection techniques to verify compliance to all drawings, planning, and purchase orders.
- Travels to supplier facilities to perform source inspections as needed.
- Performs internal Quality Management System audits.
- Conducts measurement system analysis when qualifying new inspection equipment or techniques.
- Evaluates nonconforming material in accordance with quality requirements and works with Engineering and Operations to determine its disposition or referral to the Material Review Board.
- Helps monitor corrective actions for validation
- Oversees and monitors the inspection and testing of materials, parts, and products to ensure adherence to established AGSE and customers quality standards.
- Recommends changes to quality control policies and procedures; suggests process improvements .
- Other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Travel as required.

"Pay scale" means the salary or hourly range that AGSE reasonably expects to pay for this position; it is neither a promise nor a guarantee of the compensation that the successful candidate will receive. The pay scale for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that AGSE considers in making compensation decisions, including, without limitation: skill set, experience, and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that it is not typical for AGSE employee to be at or near the top of the pay scale for their role - especially as a new hire - and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Subject to the foregoing, the current pay scale for this position is $40-$45 per hour.
