About This Position

About the Role

The Community Clinical Counselor & Outreach Lead plays a key role in Rising Ground’s Trauma Recovery Center (TRC), a program designed to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed mental health and case management services to survivors of violent crime. This position blends community outreach and engagement with therapeutic service delivery. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, clinical expertise, a passion for healing justice, and a commitment to anti-oppressive, culturally responsive care.

This staff member will lead community outreach and engagement efforts, coordinate and co-facilitate one group per week for TRC clients, maintain a caseload of 16–20 clients (approximately half group-based, half individual therapy), and actively participate in both clinical work and community collaboration. The role is based primarily in Brooklyn (East Flatbush and Brooklyn Hub) and includes a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote), with flexibility for some evening hours and special events.

What You’ll Do

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed individual and group psychotherapy services to a caseload of up to 18 clients (approx. 8–10 individual, 8–10 group).
  • Co-facilitate and organize one therapeutic or psychoeducational group per week for TRC clients.
  • Conduct clinical intakes, biopsychosocial assessments, and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide clinical case management, including linkage to housing, legal, medical, or economic services and other referrals and resources.
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in accordance with TRC and funder guidelines.
  • Utilize evidence-based and culturally responsive practices tailored to the needs of trauma survivors.

Community Outreach & Engagement:

  • Serve as Lead Outreach Coordinator for TRC’s outreach efforts in Brooklyn, especially East Flatbush.
  • Coordinate and lead a minimum of two community events or presentations per month.
  • Represent the TRC at local coalitions, community-based meetings, healing circles, and partner events.
  • Build and maintain meaningful community relationships with partner organizations, including Family Justice Centers, hospitals, and grassroots agencies.
  • Organize and lead TRC’s outreach committee meetings; support planning of annual and seasonal healing events.

Program and Team Collaboration:

  • Attend weekly TRC team meetings, case conferences, and relevant trainings.
  • Support community accompaniment and home visits as needed.
  • Participate in program evaluation, data collection, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the TRC Director and interdisciplinary team to ensure coordination of services and outreach goals.

Your Qualifications

  • MSW or Master’s in Mental Health Counseling required.
  • LMSW or LMHC preferred (or licensure within 6 months of hire required).
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, including providing trauma-informed therapy and facilitating groups.
  • Experience with community outreach, engagement, and partnership-building.
  • Knowledge of trauma recovery, interpersonal violence, and the needs of underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive and culturally humble practice.
