Responsibilities:
Hands-On Production Leadership:

  • Actively participate in the assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical switchboards alongside the production team.
  • Demonstrate leadership through high standards of workmanship, productivity, and compliance
  • Assign and prioritize daily work based on production demands and material availability.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical and production issues directly on the shop floor.

Technical Oversight & Compliance:

  • Ensure all assemblies meet UL and NEC requirements.
  • Accurately interpret and implement electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Verify proper component installation, correct wire sizing, torque specifications, labeling, grounding, and bonding.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during UL inspections and audits.

Quality Control & Testing:

  • Conduct and oversee in-process and final testing, including continuity, functional, insulation resistance, and hippo testing as applicable.
  • Review and complete all required test documentation and as-built records.
  • Identify and correct workmanship deficiencies prior to final inspection or shipment.
  • Promote first-pass quality and reduce rework.

Workforce Supervision & Training:

  • Lead and support a team of approximately 15 panel builders and electricians.
  • Train new employees and cross-train existing staff on shop standards and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance support.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
  • Conduct weekly shop meetings to review workload, align priorities, and address operational or internal concerns.

Safety & Housekeeping:

  • Develop and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with PPE requirements, lockout/tagout protocols, and safe work practices.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks and promptly address safety issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Materials, Tools & Equipment:

  • Collaborate with purchasing and engineering to prevent material shortages and delays.
  • Monitor material usage and report discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper use and basic upkeep of shop tools and equipment.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Provide daily updates to management on production status, challenges, and completion forecasts.
  • Work closely with engineering, project management, and purchasing teams.
  • Participate in project kickoffs and post-project reviews.

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience preferred but not required. Experience with building electrical switchboards or similar power distribution equipment is preferred but not required
  • Prior lead, foreman, or informal supervisory experience in a small shop environment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, and layout drawings
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical and production issues
  • Fluid using windows base software for reports, emails and drawing access

Preferred:

  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent experience
  • UL 891 and/or UL 508A shop experience
  • Experience working directly with ABS & UL inspectors
  • Familiarity with basic production tracking or ERP systems
  • Strong working knowledge of UL standards and NEC requirements
