About This Position

Description: Peer Support Specialist – Mobile Crisis Team

Department: Mobile Crisis Team
Reports to: Peer Support Team Leader
Schedule: Full-time, 32 hours/week (Tuesday–Friday, 4:00 PM-12:00AM)

Pay: $16.30-$20.31/hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Environment: Office and community-based settings


Position Overview

The Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting individuals and families experiencing psychiatric crises, many of whom may have co-occurring substance use disorders. Working as part of a multidisciplinary Mobile Crisis Team, this position collaborates with clinicians, first responders, healthcare providers, and community partners to stabilize crises, reduce hospitalizations or incarcerations, and connect individuals to immediate community-based treatment and supports.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a Master’s-level clinician to provide on-site crisis intervention in various community settings.
  • Serve as an advocate by bringing a client-centered, recovery-oriented perspective to the team.
  • Use lived experience to promote hope, self-determination, and recovery.
  • Assess individual needs and help identify appropriate community services and supports.
  • Assist clients in accessing services promptly and effectively.
  • Support interventions aimed at preventing unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration.
  • Deliver recovery-focused services to foster self-care, illness self-management, and stability.
  • Help clients develop daily living skills to maintain housing and prevent crises.
  • Complete documentation and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with team members and clients.
  • Adhere to established ethical guidelines and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.
  • Maintain flexibility to respond to crisis needs outside of typical hours, as required.
  • Obtain and maintain Peer Support Certification.

Work Environment

This position involves both office-based work and frequent engagement in community settings. The Peer Support Specialist must be comfortable working in dynamic environments and responding to individuals in various stages of crisis.

Requirements: Qualifications & Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Relevant work experience and/or college-level education in human services preferred.
  • Lived experience with a willingness to share one’s own recovery journey and successful management of mental health challenges required.
  • Peer Support Certification endorsed by the State of New Hampshire, or willingness to pursue certification, required.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required (or access to a reasonable transportation alternative).
  • Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to engage respectfully with the public.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to engage with clients and families with cultural and linguistic sensitivity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively under periods of heavy workload or stress.
  • Flexibility to manage frequent interruptions and respond to unexpected situations professionally.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for assessing and responding to individual needs.
  • Clear and objective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to maintaining open communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Skilled in active listening and empathetic communication.
  • Ability to adhere to agency quality assurance standards, including documentation timelines, accurate EMR entry, and clear, professional written work.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand, talk, and hear.
  • Must be able to maintain regular and punctual attendance, in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and applicable standards.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel is required to client homes, community locations, state agencies, and other settings necessary to fulfill job duties.
