This role provides an opportunity to lead and shape a high-impact data science program focused on improving Medicaid services for vulnerable populations. You will manage and mentor a team of data scientists, serving as the technical lead on critical healthcare analytics projects. Your work will translate complex, fragmented government health data into actionable insights that inform policy and operational decisions. You will collaborate closely with data engineering teams to design, implement, and optimize scalable ETL pipelines and analytical solutions. - Lead and mentor a team of 5–10 data scientists, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and best practices
- Serve as the hands-on technical lead for a smaller Medicaid program, managing timelines, sprint priorities, and deliverables
- Guide technical direction of data science initiatives, ensuring scalable, high-quality, well-documented, and testable solutions
- Develop, review, and optimize SQL queries, Python scripts, and PySpark transformations for large-scale Medicaid datasets
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to build, test, and deploy automated ETL pipelines in a cloud-based Databricks environment
- Act as the primary technical liaison for business analysts, internal leadership, and government stakeholders
- Design reporting and visualization solutions to provide actionable insights for clients and leadership
Requirements:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in data science or data engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or management role
- Direct experience with healthcare data, particularly Medicaid or Medicare claims datasets
- Expert proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark for data analysis, transformation, and automation
- Hands-on experience building and managing data pipelines on Databricks or similar modern cloud platforms
- Familiarity with software engineering practices, including Git version control, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong documentation and communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work fully remotely within the United States and meet government contracting requirements
